Philippe Clement spoke to Rangers TV after his side’s 2-0 win over Livingston.
Three points today, you must be delighted with the performance?
Yes, because it was a mature performance and it’s tricky to play on synthetic pitch. Also, 12 o’clock shortly after a European success, all of these things means it’s easy to lose points. The state of mind of the players can be less sharp. I’m really happy with the team because they showed the right mentality. All game we were dominant and we didn’t give away anything. We could’ve scored more goals than the two.
Four changes to the team and they all made positive impacts. Must be pleasing?
Yes because for me it’s not about the starting XI, it’s about the squad. We’re going to need the squad. After the international break we will have 12 games in 38 days, it’s going to be a really busy schedule, so we will need everyone at their best level. Everyone has to understand how to run, when to run, what to do with and without the ball. Having these connections together, you can only do this with training sessions but also experiences in a game.
Ross McCausland with another pleasing performance?
Yes, but he’s still a young lad. With the right mentality, hard work in training and the right focus, I’m also a manager who will give chances to young players if they have done the right things in training. Development of young players is an important part of my job.
Nice to see Cyriel Dessers to score and assist from Tom Lawrence who came back into the side?
All of things are positive. You see players who didn’t start on Thursday but who are important today. Others who were important on Thursday came in with the right energy. So we are building a good team. That is a very important thing for me. I want to see a team, a dressing room. I want to see a difference with who is starting and who is not starting, but that everyone counts on each other and are a real team on and off the pitch.
Another James Tavernier goal from the penalty spot
Yes, he scored from the penalty spot but he gets a lot of penalties these days. I hope in the future we will score even more.
How important will international break be for the squad?
I’m not a fan of it of course because I’d rather keep my team together. The lads who will go away will go to another environment with other ideas, so when they come back they need to bring them back into the story. It’s also in another way a moment in which some players can train well but also get a rest. When you play every three days during nine to 10 months, the body dies. We will take this period in the best way to develop players who need it.
