Todd Cantwell has commented on his Rangers exit for the first time since leaving Ibrox.
The 26-year-old joined Blackburn Rovers on deadline day in a move worth up to £600,000 after handing in a transfer request earlier this summer.
Cantwell joined Rangers from Norwich City in January 2023 with the Ibrox club under the management of Michael Beale. His relationship with Beale's successor Philippe Clement suffered an early blow after he was substituted 37 minutes into a Europa League draw with Aris last November.
Despite returning to form in the new year Cantwell submitted a request to leave the club at the start of the summer and has returned to the Championship tonight.
Clement, speaking after a friendly defeat against Birmingham in July, said: "Todd Cantwell came to me in my office a while ago, and we have a really good relationship so we talked for [a long time], to say that he feels ready for another adventure and challenge.
"I spoke for long with him because I think Rangers is a really good club for him and I wanted to give him time also. That's why in the last couple of weeks I didn't speak about it. But he came back with the same request. I am going to be focused on the guys who in their heads are focused on Rangers."
Commenting on Instagram this evening, Cantwell said: "It was an absolute honour to play for this special football club. Please don't believe everything you read in the press! I wish everyone well for the future! Mon the gers!"
Meanwhile, Rangers have confirmed the signing of Sassuolo midfielder Nedim Bajrami in a deal worth up to £3.4million.
As the Rangers Review reported on Wednesday, the two clubs have been locked in negotiations over the Albanian international over the past three days.
Bajrami moved from Empoli in 2023 but Sassuolo were relegated to Serie B at the end of last season, opening the possibility of a deal. It is understood that he will sign a four-year contract.
The midfielder scored the fastest goal in European Championship history this summer when he gave his country the lead after 23 seconds in a 2-1 defeat against Italy.
