Bobby Madden has taken to social media to correct fans' interpretations of the laws of the game after controversies in the match between Rangers and Hibs on Sunday - and he's made it clear he's had enough of some of the more dubious takes.

The former Grade one referee, who was one of the most respected in the game before his retirement, posted: "My head is sore with this p***" as he addressed fans who suggested Hibs' missed penalty against Rangers should have been retaken.

Some suggested Jack Butland was off his line while others pointed to encroachment by Robin Propper as a case VAR should have answered.

But Madden was having none of it and pointed out that photographic evidence showed conclusively that part of Butland's foot was on the line while encroachment is no longer penalised if it has no material impact on the kick.

(Image: Instagram) He also gave his verdict on the decision to award the penalty for a handball by John  Souttar.

Madden was adamant, despite the protestations of Philippe Clement, that the penalty call was sound.

He wrote: "Penalty 100% correct. No doubt. I see some blinkered individual’s are demanding a red card for denying a goal. Unlike Motherwell yesterday, the goalkeeper was in position to make a save. Quite simple really.

Rangers ultimately won the match 1-0 after a sweet Tom Lawrence strike before half time was the only time the net bulged.
