There weren’t many pundits who were predicting Rangers would be able to achieve the unthinkable and dump Europa League favourites Borussia Dortmund out of the competition – but that’s exactly what they have done.
On an extraordinary night at Ibrox that will be remembered for decades to come, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men fought to a deserved 2-2 draw with captain James Tavernier grabbing a double.
Here’s what the pundits had to say about a pulsating, manic 90 minutes that was end to end from the very start.
Kenny Miller (on BT Sport)
“It was unbelievable.
"Gio must deserve credit for the change in system in the second-half. It absolutely worked. They were phenomenal in the second-half, Ryan Kent especially. He was unplayable.
"Get him the ball and get him central as well running at Hummels and Can. It caused mayhem. Do you know what? They were also robbed of one. It should have been 3-2 because the Morelos free-kick is not a free-kick. It was an outstanding performance.
“It’s one of the greatest results not just in Rangers’ recent history, but in Scottish football’s recent history. They have beaten a giant of European football over two legs."
Kris Boyd (on Sky Sports)
"It's an unbelievable result, not only for Rangers but for Scottish football.
"I said last week it would send shockwaves through Europe, but to actually complete the job, get over the line, knock Borussia Dortmund out, it's an unbelievable achievement here for Rangers.
"What I will say is it was a bad referee's decision that actually stopped them winning this game here tonight so it's not been a fluke.
"Yes, Borussia Dortmund have had a lot of possession and I will say Jude Bellingham is a superstar in the making, he's only 18 but he's got the body of a man, the physicality of a man and he's a top player and he will become a superstar.
"But he has been toppled by Rangers tonight."
Owen Hargreaves (on BT Sport)
“I think the rest of Europe will be taking notice, absolutely.
“The amount goals they score, the way they play and Ibrox is not a place other teams will want to go and play at.
“Ibrox is a stadium like Anfield, it can grab a hold of the game and if the players match that intensity then it’s a very difficult place.
“They’re not one of the favourites on paper but the way they’re performing they’ll believe they can make more noise in the competition."
“To knock out a team like Borussia Dortmund is some achievement – they were brilliant over the two legs.
“After two years of Covid this is what players and fans dream of - playing in front of a crowd like that.
“It’s such a beautiful feeling to win a game against the favourites. It was huge moment for Glasgow Rangers and for Scottish football."
Ally McCoist (on the decision to disallow Rangers' third goal on BT Sport)
"It's a diabolical decision, absolutely diabolical.
"He (Morelos) puts his foot down on the ground and he (Can) kicks him.
"Morelos takes the area in front of Can - it's Can's fault that he kicks Morelos.
"There's no contact at all - it's a scandalous decision.
"There's absolutely no contact that Morelos makes on Can - it's the opposite way about."
Chris Sutton (on Twitter)
"Credit where credit is due.
"To beat Dortmund a German giant over two legs is phenomenal from Rangers.
"Well done to Giovanni Van Bronckhurst."
