Allan McGregor: Despite another display at the weekend which cost points, the 40-year-old retained his manager’s trust and with that his place. Looked shaky during a first-half corner and could’ve been exposed after a miskicked a clearance. 6
James Tavernier: Returning to the ground where he single-handedly won points last year with a late winner, Tavernier used the ball well when he had it and defended well, injecting some moments of real intention. Struggled to impact the game offensively. 6
Connor Goldson: Endured an off-day at the weekend, which proved costly as Motherwell fought back from two down. Wasn’t protected brilliantly by his midfield and faced a lack of options, aside from balls behind the defence, whenever in possession. Dealt with plenty of long balls well. 7
Leon Balogun: Returned to the starting eleven having been rested at the weekend, Balogun’s presence was felt in moments up against a physical strike force. Made one error at a corner that could’ve been punished, seemingly slipping. Regularly tested and defended strongly. 7
Calvin Bassey: Appears at this current moment to be the first-choice left-back and got up to support Kent on occasion, even if his final ball lacked quality. Looked the most energised of his peers throughout and always stretched the pitch in transition. 7
John Lundstram: Reverted to his usual midfield slot having started in defence on Sunday. Faced familiar problems of not being able to receive the ball off his centre-backs and when he did, lacking options to progress the ball. A risky drag back in the penalty area could’ve gone terribly. 6
Glen Kamara: With no Ryan Jack Kamara was joined by Lundstram at the base of midfield. Started the game superbly with a well-timed run and composed finish, not dissimilar form a goal scored here last season. After that he started to faze out the game and was moved deeper just before the interval. 7
Scott Arfield: Has looked a little leggy as of late given his workload but still played from the start. Aside from a few moments linlking with Morelos, that continued. Didn’t have his usual industry off the ball and if he couldn’t receive the ball inside the pitch, his wide right position was sterile. Missed an unbelievable chance that would have offered breathing space. 5
Joe Aribo: Hasn’t quite looked himself since returning from AFCON. Likely needing a rest but without many options, that hasn’t been forthcoming. A couple of runs over the top were nearly found and twice the Nigerian was cynically scythed down having outplayed his man. As the game wore on Aribo looked completely exhausted. 5
Ryan Kent: Kent has enjoyed an upturn of form in recent games, laying on two assists in the previous fixture. However, with the home side doubling up on the winger and his decision making questionable, his first-half impact was limited. Nothing came off throughout even if the intent was there, Kent constantly ran into trouble. 5
Alfredo Morelos: After another weekend goal, and two ruled out for offside, Morelos’ levels remain a net positive in a frustrating period. Everything that Rangers did before the interval of any merit involved the Colombian. He provided a superb assist, smacked the post, combined well with Aribo and Arfield to fashion chances. His side’s best player even if he looked leggy. 7
