ALLAN McGregor has not entered contract negotiations with Rangers, but both parties remain open to discussions surrounding a new deal.
Reports have suggested that the veteran goalkeeper has entered talks to prolong his stay at the club beyond this summer.
However, the Rangers Review understands that discussions have not yet taken place regarding a possible new contract. The player and club enjoy an excellent relationship and although an extension is not off the table, no discussions are currently ongoing.
Sources also confirmed that the 40-year-old does not have an active interest in pursuing a coaching role at the club.
A legend at Ibrox, McGregor enjoyed one of his greatest individual seasons in 2020/21 as the club completed an invincible league campaign to win their 55th league title.
Having initially rejoined in 2018 following spells in Turkey and England, he was a standout as Rangers completed a record-breaking defensive season in Scotland, conceding just 13 goals throughout the 38-game campaign.
However, costly mistakes last season prompted rumours that a new No.1 would take over this summer, despite McGregor's impressive displays as Rangers reached the Europa League Final. Current No.2 Jon McLaughlin has been widely tipped to become Giovanni van Bronkhorst's first-choice goalkeeper next season.
McGregor's retirement appeared to be set in stone after he came on during the Scottish Cup Final last month, replacing McLaughlin for the game's last two minutes.
But he refused to be drawn on whether the appearance would be his last during a post-match interview with RangersTV.
"Of course, it will look like [my final game]", he said after the late substitution.
"If I was watching it would look like that to me as well. But I've not thought about it [my contract]. There have been games every week. All I've thought about is the next game and recovery. Now that the season is finished I will talk to the club, they're easy to talk to and they know me. We will see what is best for both parties."
