With the players and staff still enjoying a well-earned rest on holiday, things are somewhat sedate in the only key area of interest at this time of year - the transfer market.

There's the usual wild speculation from near and far, but in our discussions with the club it's clear there's little tangible to report.

The latest to be linked with a move away is Borna Barisic, who certainly has suitors in other leagues. Not least Turkey, England and now, according to the Daily Record, Serie A.

The 29-year-old has two years left on his deal and this summer may be his last chance to make a life-changing move if he and his agent can get a deal over the line.

And while there's a chance he will depart Govan for good before the deadline, there have been no offers or contact with the club for the player at this stage.

Barisic has been an excellent signing since then director of football Mark Allen swooped following a brilliant performance for Croatian side Osijek in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

Steven Gerrard was sufficiently impressed to sanction a move for around £1.5m and the rest is history.

After suffering a rough start, he acclimatised to Scottish football in dramatic fashion with a beautifully pinged free-kick winner in Paisley, signalling a footbaling rebirth of the like fans hadn't seen since the heady days of Mark Hateley.

Barisic was a key part of the 20/21 title win that brought a 55th championship to Ibrox delivering significantly with a sizeable pile of goal contributions.

Things were not so smooth last season with a mercurial period of form and a £2m transfer offer rejected from Watford.

It will be interesting to see how his story unfolds but perhaps there's a developing feeling that now may be a good time for all concerned if the quantum is right.

One player the Rangers Review would like to see at Ibrox is 33-year-old striker Bas Dost.

He's not been linked in the media but our scouting writer Craig Vickers thinks he's a perfect fit.

Now before anyone gets on their high horse, yes, we know we are giving it the full Bunah Football Manager treatment here - but it's just a bit of fun until the real action starts!

Our writers are constantly looking at player profiles that might suit Rangers' style and we feel Dost could be the fox in the box missing since Jermain Defoe's departure.

To be fair, at 6ft4 he's a rather large fox.

The striker has been prolific wherever he's played, finishing top scorer in both the Bundesliga and Portuguese top-flight earlier in his career.

Now, aged 33, he is perhaps looking to continue the more sparing use that saw him grab 12 goals in 11 starts in the Belgian top-flight last term.

Now, there's absolutely no suggestion Rangers are looking at the Dutch targetman, but we still reckon he'd be a perfect fit to add firepower to the current squad!
