Jon McLaughlin: Had very little to contend with throughout the game. Wasn’t required much in possession as Rangers looked to pour forward with reckless abandon in the second period. 6

James Tavernier: Looked to combine with Tillman on the right, showing his formidable strength on the ball in attacking duels. Dispatched his penalty with the usual aplomb. Cushioned Lawrence’s cross-field pass across the penalty box which lead to Colak’s follow-up header. 6

Connor Goldson: Always quick to release his passes into Tavernier in the early stages. Unfortunate that a searching diagonal for Kent in the first half only narrowly avoided the Rangers winger. Perhaps too wasteful with his distribution in the second half. 5

James Sands: Booked inside the first half after bringing down Amani on the halfway line following an undercooked pass from Kent. Guilty of misplacing too many passes out of defence and was involved in a bemusing episode where he appeared to be shown a second yellow card only for the referee to reverse his decision. 5

Borna Barisic: Felt the ire of the crowd for a lack of ambition in possession. Delivered the searching cross which led to the handball penalty concession from the visitors, while he stood up a lofted cross for Tillman to meet to make it three on the evening for Rangers. Looked more assured in the second half. 6

John Lundstram: Dropped into the backline when required to deal with Union’s dual threat in transition. Sniffed out danger when it arose in the middle of the pitch, especially against the dangerous Teddy Teuma, and helped Rangers access the other side of the pitch. Tested the goalkeeper with a curling left-footed effort immediately after Colak’s header. 7

Scott Arfield: Struggled to get involved in the early portion of the game. Made a few penetrating runs but he was closely monitored by the opposition, although it was his initial strike that led to Colak’s rebound. Withdrawn for Matondo on 63 minutes. 5

Tom Lawrence: Crunched into a few early challenges which got the crowd on his side. Had a pop at goal after working half a yard of space on the half-hour mark, but he was often guilty of turning over possession too cheaply before he picked out a sumptuous pass for Tavernier in the lead-up to Colak’s goal. Vastly improved showing in the second half. 7

Malik Tillman: Combined expertly with Tavernier on the right-hand side, showing supreme technical ability on a few occasions. Moved the ball quickly which was key to retaining the tempo. A supreme header, rising above the Union goalkeeper, to seal Rangers’ progression on the tie which capped off a statement performance. 8

Antonio Colak: Guilty of timing his runs a split-second too quickly in the early exchanges. Denied with a dangerous glancing header from point-blank range in the first half. Worked tirelessly from a defensive perspective and he got his rewards with a poacher’s finish. His most complete performance in a Rangers shirt. 7

Ryan Kent: Doubled up on by Union at every opportunity. Understandably lacked some sharpness in his ability to ghost around players, but combined effectively on the edge of the area on a few occasions. 5

Substitutes

Rabbi Matondo: Replaced Arfield as van Bronckhorst looked to inject more pace. Broke into some promising areas on the right. 5

Alfredo Morelos: Held the ball up well in his cameo off the bench. 5

Ben Davies: Offered some assurance to the Rangers backline as they closed out the game. 5

Glen Kamara: His control helped to see the game out. 5
