Rangers return to Ibrox on Tuesday evening to pay tribute to one of their greatest-ever servants in Allan McGregor.

Newcastle United are the opponents for the 41-year-old’s testimonial which will give the supporters a first glimpse at new summer signings.

It is the first of four pre-season fixtures ahead of the Premiership campaign getting underway on Saturday 5th August.

With that in mind, what team will Michael Beale select to take on the Magpies?

Our writers predict their Rangers XIs below.

Tomorrow is the day, Rangers are back in action. Tuesday evening's friendly meeting with Newcastle United is of course Allan McGregor's testimonial - a chance to wave goodbye to a club legend, while watching the new cohort for the first time.

McGregor will play one last time from the start with Jack Butland, his successor in goals, likely to come on as a substitute at some point, to allow Ibrox a final farewell to one of their greatest-ever servants.

The defence will be led by James Tavernier, with Ridvan Yilmaz and John Souttar making up the certain starters in an area of the pitch that remains understaffed. Perhaps a second Ibrox debut for Leon Balogun should be expected.

Nico Raskin enjoyed an extended break after Belgium under-21 duty, so won't play from the start. John Lundstram could be given the nod at the base of midfield with Ryan Jack and Kieran Dowell making up the compliment.

Then to the front three. Cyriel Dessers didn't feature in Friday's friendly win over Hallescher. Abdallah Sima feels likely to start alongside Sam Lammers with Todd Cantwell occupying the No.10 position.

Predicted line-up: McGregor, Tavernier, Souttar, Balogun, Ridvan, Lundstram, Jack, Dowell, Cantwell, Lammers, Sima.

As much as Tuesday is about saying thank you to a Rangers great, it is also important in terms of giving the new recruits a chance to show just why they were brought to Ibrox in the first place.

Newcastle will provide a stern test and the team Michael Beale selects will no doubt reflect this.

As much as we should expect to see Jack Butland at some point, Allan McGregor surely starts the match. It may be likely he will make way at some point later in the game to what will be an emotional ovation from the stands.

In front of McGregor, given the injuries to Connor Goldson and Leon King, Leon Balogun will partner John Souttar at the heart of the backline with Ridvan and James Tavernier occupying the flanks.

The midfield will alter throughout the game but Ryan Jack should start with Todd Cantwell and his former Norwich buddy Keiran Dowall completing the trio.

Sam Lammers may sit just behind a front two of Abdallah Sima and Cyriel Dessers although don’t be surprised to see Fashion Sakala or even the lesser-spotted Kemar Roofe given the nod as they look to build up their match sharpness.

Predicted line-up: McGregor, Tavernier, Souttar, Balogun, Ridvan, Jack, Dowell, Cantwell, Lammers, Sima, Dessers.
