Manchester United will host Rangers in a pre-season friendly at Scottish Gas Murrayfield this summer.
The English giants will travel north on Saturday, 20 July 2024 to take part in the fixture just before the start of the 2024/25 season.
Erik ten Hag's side, who defeated Liverpool in extra-time on Sunday to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, beat French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais last summer at the same venue in front of 50,000 spectators. United will head to LA a few days later for the club's rout of America.
The game will kick-off at 4pm. It's the first time the two sides have met in over a decade since two Champions League group stage meetings in 2010.
Walter Smith's side managed a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford before a late Wayne Rooney penalty sealed victory in the reverse meeting at Ibrox.
Due to the planned Copland Stand works at Ibrox this summer, the meeting in Edinburgh may be the only opportunity to watch Rangers live in Scotland this pre-season.
“We are delighted to have been invited to play in this terrific fixture in July against a high-level of opposition in Manchester United," Rangers CCO Karim Virani commented.
“Our supporters have fond memories of our one previous trip to Murrayfield, and I am sure will enjoy a fantastic day in the Capital in the summer at what is an excellent venue.
“For the club, while most-importantly it will give us an excellent preparation game for Philippe’s men’s first-team squad, it will also give us terrific exposure with the game set to be shown all over the world.
“We are very much looking forward to this game, and will confirm the remainder of our pre-season plans for this summer in due course.”
Manchester United Football Director, John Murtough, added: “United v Rangers is one of those must-see fixtures that any fan of football would want to watch. Bringing together two of the UK’s most highly decorated and respected teams, the match will not only provide entertaining and exciting football for our fans, but also a strong and competitive opponent to kick start the squad’s preparation for the season ahead.”
