Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has confirmed he had to be subbed off against Celtic through injury.

The forward had started in the Scottish Cup Final 2024 on Saturday but picked up a nasty knock after a challenge from Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Dessers - who fears he has damaged sprained ankle ligaments - admitted he had to be withdrawn after struggling to play on.

The Ibrox forward made it to the half-time interval but had to be replaced by Abdallah Sima.

Now, Dessers has confirmed the challenge from Carter-Vickers in the box in the first half left him sweating over his fitness.

He said: “I got injured in the first half after around 20 or 25 minutes.

“It was the tackle from Carter-Vickers and it’s my ankle. I tried to go on because obviously, it was the game of the year, the big final at the end of the season, one big push. But I had to come off.

“I’ll get it assessed in the next few days.”

Dessers' injury has not yet been checked out with the striker leaving Hampden wearing a moonboot sparking fears over a long-term injury blow.

Meanwhile, James Tavernier apologised to Rangers supporters for the defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

"The support was unbelievable today, it's obviously a sore one for them and we can only apologise as a team," he said.

"I think the gaffer has said this summer is going to be massive for us, a massive rebuild.

"We have to look forward for that and deliver for the fans."
