A furious James Tavernier had to haul Mohamed Diomande from a heated Celtic vs Rangers rammy in the Scottish Cup final.

The Ibrox captain was required to step in as Diomande squared up to Celtic rivals in an unseen moment during the Hampden showdown.

Diomande had become embroiled in a fierce exchange with a number of Celtic players after Dujon Sterling was adjudged to have fouled Greg Taylor.

After Nick Walsh blew for a free-kick - despite pundits agreeing it was a fair challenge - Diomande clashed with Adam Idah and Callum McGregor before receiving an earful from Alistair Johnston.

Rangers Review:

The Rangers midfielder - who makes his switch from Nordsjælland permanent in the summer - had jogged over to where Taylor was on the ground and barged into McGregor before being bundled over himself by Idah.

Diomande was helped back to his feet by team-mate Leon Balogun but was irate over the situation as he stormed back into the heated exchange.

However, captain Tavernier ripped Diomande away from erupting rammy as he screamed at the midfielder to leave the situation.

Celtic defender Johnston then pointed and shouted towards Diomande over the foul fallout. 

Diomande then faced a nervous moment in added time as he appeared to flick out at Daizen Maeda after a foul from the Japanese winger.

Maeda was booked for his tackle but Diomande escaped punishment for his reaction to the tackle.

A VAR check was carried out but no further action was required as John Beaton called for the match to resume with no clear and obvious error spotted.
