Rangers manager Philippe Clement says Oscar Cortes will be out for "four or five weeks" after suffering an injury on the opening day of the season.

The 20-year-old Colombian was forced off early in the second-half as Rangers drew 0-0 with Hearts in their first game of the 2024/25 season.

Clement confirmed afterwards that the winger had been checked over at half-time, having initially pulled up towards the end of the first 45, but felt able to carry on.

And, speaking from Lublin ahead of Rangers' Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv, Clement confirmed that following a scan, Cortes will be missing for more than a month.

"No, he didn't travel," he said when asked about the Colombian. "He had a scan and he will be out for around four or five weeks. It was a really unlucky fall in the duel, and his knee was twisted.

"So, yeah, it's an unlucky injury, nothing to do with load or whatever, just an unlucky collision with the player.

"Of course it's a hard blow for him, for the team, because he was coming back and he's going to become an important player for the future of the club. He has a lot of quality, he showed that last season, he was hungry to come back, he was on his way back, he was not at his best yet, but he showed already promising things again.

"So, yeah, it's a blow, but it's part of football. It's not only with Rangers, it's in every club in the world. You can have bad collisions, you can have those things. You need to live with that and make a fast rehab. Everybody's working hard on that.

"I think also the quality in our rehab is better than we had last season. So, yeah, he's going to come back and he's going to be important this season, but we're going to miss him, of course, in these important weeks."

Cortes arrived at the club in January on an initial loan deal from Lens. The Ligue 1 outfit brought Cortes to France following an impressive spell with Millonarios in Colombia and his impressive performance at the U20 South American Championships in 2023.

Cortes suffered what was branded a freak injury during a win over Kilmarnock in February that ended his season and required surgery.

However, Clement and director of football recruitment Nils Koppen moved to prolong the attacker's stay in Glasgow early in the summer by agreeing a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.

Clement's side have travelled to eastern Poland today ahead of the first leg of their Champions League third-round play-off tie against Dynamo Kyiv. Due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, the tie will be played at the Arena Lublin,
