Dujon Sterling has signed a new deal at Rangers to prolong his stay at Ibrox until 2028.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club on a free contract last summer after the expiry of his deal at Chelsea, has extended his deal following an impressive debut campaign in Glasgow.

After Sterling's emergence as a key player for Philippe Clement, fresh terms have been signed to keep the versatile player at the club.

Sterling arrived at Ibrox last summer (Image: Alan Harvey - SNS Group) Sterling, who agreed a four-year deal last summer, initially arrived at Rangers to challenge James Tavernier. The right-back would break into the first-team as a midfielder, however, following an injury crisis last winter.

The former Stoke, Blackpool and Coventry player thrived for Clement in a variety of positions, playing everywhere from centre-back to right-wing throughout the course of last season.

Sterling, who is also part of the new leadership group in the current squad, has endured a limited role at the start of this campaign as he continues to build up fitness. It’s believed that Clement views the player as an integral part of his squad with a new contract viewed as just rewards for the versatile player’s emergence and impact last season.

"It is good to get it over the line, I am obviously proud. The club have rewarded me because they thought my performances were good last season and for me it is just about building on that this season. It gives me extra motivation that I want to do more, I have got the reward and now I want to repay the favour," Sterling said.

“It is a great place to work every day, with a good manager, teammates, staff and fans. It feels like a home and for me there was no reason to change that.”

“He has become a vital member of the squad over the past year since I came to the club, showing his potential in several positions and always being ready for the team," added Clement.

“Dujon is a player who has loved his Rangers journey so far and I’m sure the supporters have appreciated his selflessness and incredible work ethic."

Meanwhile, Ianis Hagi has returned to the Rangers first-team squad - bringing an end to the stand-off between club and player.

Hagi, who spent last season on loan at La Liga outfit Deportivo Alaves, has been playing and training with the B team this season after returning from his time with the Romania squad at Euro 2024.

Philippe Clement stated publicly that the 26-year-old was not viewed as a long-term solution at No.10, with a contract clause complicating Hagi’s reintegration when no transfer away from Ibrox materialised over the summer window.

Hagi had also publicly discussed the possibility of an Ibrox exit before playing for Romania this symmer after a frustrating spell in his career. 

However, the Rangers Review understands that a solution has been reached following dialogue between the two parties with a desire to resolve the situation expressed on either side. Hagi has since returned to first-team training ahead of the club’s remaining fixtures before the upcoming October international break.
