How are the players after last night?

Physically it was a tough match. We came in after the game and had some concerns with John Lundstram’s ankle and also had to substitute Joe Aribo. So, we’re assessing them today and tomorrow to see if they can be involved on Sunday.

Does that give you a chance to rotate?

We have a big squad so eventually, I will see who’s available for Sunday and also see the opponent and then decide which players to start, which game plan to use. At the moment the process is still going on. When all the pieces are together we will make up a strong team because we want to be in the semi-final after the game.

How do you get the players refocused after the high of last night?

We have to rest well and recover well because it’s only two days. I think the mindset of the players is fantastic so I don’t have to say anything. The players are in recovery mode today and tomorrow, the players who didn’t play yesterday trained today in a good session. Everyone has their own programme to ensure they’re fresh for Sunday.

How pleasing is it to see your players so tactically flexible?

It’s always good to see your players performing well, we put a lot of time and energy into preparing the team with training sessions and meetings. It’s always nice to see it all come together in the game. In Europe, we have to adapt often to the opponent. Some players play different positions but in the end I think we’re very pleased with the players and I think the way we’ve been playing tactically, but also our character, is the way to go forward. It starts with that and if you have tactical awareness in games you have a high chance to win games.

What makes your players raise their levels in Europe?

I don’t think it’s a specific thing but playing in Europe is always special. I always felt it was special when I was a player and as the manager, I feel the same because you’re going to play against big teams, different countries, it’s another podium for all of us. Yesterday at Ibrox the atmosphere was fantastic, you can feel that on the pitch and we’re performing well in Europe. Our aim is to go to Belgrade and try and work hard to be in the next round.

Do you have to refresh the squad to keep energy levels high?

It’s repeating everything you’ve done in your meetings. We’re one game away from the semi-finals and the cup is very important, it’s the quickest way to a major prize. It has been a while since we won a cup as a club so we have everything to play for on Sunday and it's up to us to park Europe and switch to the domestic cup. We’re preparing well and we have to make sure we go to the next round on Sunday.

You played Glen Kamara in an advanced role. Is that a tactic you’d like to employ more regularly?

Glen is very, very versatile. He’s a dynamic player and can play a number of positions in midfield. So for me, it’s a possibility to play him in that role. It depends on the opponent. We have a lot of midfield players in the squad so I can switch and play defensively strong or a really offensive midfield, a balanced midfield. I’m really happy with the strength in depth in there because it gives me a lot of options to chose from and the role Kamara played in combination with Ryan Jack and Lundstram but also with Aribo, I think it worked really well. It’s definitely a position he can play in future as well.

How are you going to approach the match in Belgrade?

It’s only halfway. The game is still to be played next week in Belgrade. We could see the quality of Red Star yesterday. The 3-0 victory we are really happy with but I didn’t think it reflected the difference in level yesterday. It was much more even than the score suggested. We are preparing well for this game and because we have already played them we can know much better their strengths and weaknesses and I have a much better feel for the opponent now. You can watch videos and see games but once you have played against them you have a much better feeling about the opponent which we had also when we played Dortmund. We will work hard now for Dundee and on Monday we will work hard for Red Star and make sure we are really well prepared for everything that will come our way next week because I think it will be the same game with the same environment but now we are playing away so we have to be ready.

How far can this group go in the Europa League?

The game gives you a lot of positivity because you had a great result to take with us to Belgrade. Weare at a stage where there are very strong opponents left in the tournament and it’s still far away from the final. There are a lot of games still and the most important thing for me is when you’re in Europe, every game you have to be there. One slip up on one night when we aren’t there can cost you your next round so you really have to take it game by game and make sure every game you play from now on is with 100 per cent focus and be ready physically and be dynamic. Playing in Europe takes a lot of energy, a lot of thinking, a lot of decisions you have to make in split seconds as a player. So the most important thing is when we are there next week is to reach our level and way of playing then we have a big chance to go to the next round. Any team now left in the tournament can win it in the end. The team that will win will be the one that plays all the games on a high level and doesn’t make mistakes. Next week is another goal for us and we are doing everything to go to the next round.

Scott Arfield wasn’t in the squad last night, when will he be available?

He is unavailable. Hopefully, we will see him back with the squad in the next few days. I think we will be available for the return against Red Star.
