RYAN Kent spoke to BT Sport after helping Rangers defeat Red Star Belgrade 4-2 on aggregate to progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.
What is your reaction to the result?
It was incredible, it was a huge game to play in and to progress to the next round topped it all off.
After conceding the early goal was the aim to try and frustrate them and take the sting out the game?
We came here to win today. Every game we want to win but the ultimate goal was to progress through to the next round. We had a gameplan and the boys stuck to it, big shout out to Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara today because the amount of running they did in midfield was exceptional.
Massive goal for you, did you always feel those opportunities would come second half?
Yeah, we kept it nice and compact at the back and we knew we’d catch them on the counterattack at times and we managed to do that. We got a lucky break and I got a bit of luck in the end for my goal.
You’ve been waiting a while, were you tempted to pass it to Alfredo?
No, not today!
Did you think you had to ride your luck at times?
I think you create your own luck in football. The boys stuck together, we defended as a team and we attacked as a team and we came away with what we wanted.
Have you learned things from this tie?
I think that we know we’re up against really good teams at this stage of the competition, teams that can punish you if you have lapses of concentration but I think we’ve shown that we can get goals in these games.
Have Rangers now shown they’re a real force to be reckoned with in Europe?
I think so, I mentioned the other day that each year we want to progress more than the previous year and that’s the goal this year, we’ve managed to do that and we’re into the quarter-finals. We’ve got to have some sort of belief that we’ve made it here so far.
