It's been an incredible slaloming Europa League run for Rangers since qualifying from the group stages but it hasn't always looked so rosy this season.

Way back in August, Rangers faced Armenian side Alashkert FC in the qualifying round and struggled.

An Alfredo Morelos goal was the difference at Ibrox on a tense night when John Lundstram was sent off for two bookable offences.

And the return in Yerevan was no easier on a stuffy night, not too dissimilar to what the team will face in Seville.

A tough to watch 0-0 draw sent Steven Gerrard's side through by a wafer-thin one-goal margin, although the manager himself was to miss the tie with Covid.

Given Rangers are now in the final, we asked their first opponents in the competition to reflect on two legs where they threatened to cause an upset against a team one step from glory.

The club stated: "The first leg in Glasgow was amazing. The fantastic crowd at Ibrox created a breathtaking atmosphere. As for the match itself, the only goal decided the winner, leaving the outcome of the rivalry for the second leg.

"After the match in Scotland there was a clear feeling we that would be able to make it, even though the opponent is a very strong and famous one.

"Even a red card in the first half didn’t force us to stop fighting and believing in success until the last second.

"The 0-0 draw in Yerevan has left us with mixed feelings. On one hand it was an honour to tie up with a top team with grand history. On another hand we were really close to make another historical step.

"One thing is clear - rivalry with Rangers FC has already found its unique place in Alashkert FC’s short, but respectworthy history.

"We wish Rangers FC a great game and victory in the final of the Europa League. You guys deserve it!"
