Every word Giovanni van Bronckhorst said to BT Sport after tonight's game.
How do you react to that result?
I’m very disappointed. You play the final and you are very close to winning silverware. We were today as well. When you don’t win the emotions go from very high to very low. I’ve had those moments in my career, losing big games, losing the World Cup Final. It hurts. For us it’s now to look ahead and although it feels a bit difficult, we have to, we have to make sure we are ready for Saturday. We have a big game against Hearts for the cup but of course we are very disappointed.
Could you have asked any more from them tonight?
No. I said that to the players. We came so far. We deserved it. I’m very proud of them because we had our challenges with injuries in a lot of games we played but we always gave everything. Today as well. We had our chances. We had a big chance just before time with Ryan with a great save. With the penalties it’s a lottery. We were not on the right side of that.
How did you see the Frankfurt goal?
We knew they would be dangerous with crosses. I haven’t seen the goal back. To be 1-0 up you have to make sure you keep the zero because then you get stronger. The goal we gave was a bit to fast. A cross. We knew they were dangerous. They had the first contact in the box. Then it was 1-1 and we had to start over again.
What do you think of Joe Aribo as a false nine?
He did very well. It’s a new role for him. We had to adjust because Kemar was out and Morelos was out. The players had to adapt to a new position. I think he played really well, scored an important goal and in the end, he was empty and we had to change it.
How do you pick them up for Saturday?
It’s difficult. It’s a short gap because we play again on Saturday. We will face this challenge as well. The emotions are very down but we have to face this quickly and be ready for Saturday.
Has this given you a platform to compete at this level?
We showed that today but next season we have to start all over again. We came so far because we played so well and had the belief to win the final but next year it’s starting again. No, it’s not certain we will be on this level so next year we will work hard and make sure we develop as a team and we want to be on this stage. Next year we want to do it all over again. We start from zero and work hard to get silverware.
