The new arrival was speaking to RangersTV.
What does it mean to be a Rangers player?
Thank you first of all, it’s a huge and amazing feeling to be here, finally! I have to thank everyone in the club who worked night and day and also my agent, all the people around me who supported me, to bring me to Rangers. For me, as soon as I knew that Rangers wanted me I was just focused on Rangers and wanted to be here. Now I’m happy that finally the day is here and I’m a Rangers player.
Why did you feel Rangers was the right place for you?
It’s not only because of the game I played [for Malmo] at Ibrox last year, it was an amazing atmosphere. But I know from my past as a child, being a football addict, I followed all the leagues and I’ve followed Rangers since Dado Prso, Nikica Jelavic, Nacho Novo. All this time I watched the players being successful and scoring. This feeling gives me goosebumps and I want to achieve similar things. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to join Rangers.
Do you want to be the next Croatian loved by the fan base?
Of course! The footsteps that others have left, also Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic right now, they have all done a great job. I want to keep that tradition, give everything for the club and achieve the targets that the club has. I want to score a lot of goals, bring assists, win and fight. This is what I want to give as a Rangers player.
Do you hope success at Rangers can earn you recognition with the Croatian national team?
I think so. First I want to settle in and acclimatise as fast as possible to the team because as I’ve seen from afar, it’s an amazing group. They wouldn’t achieve what they have done without team spirit. I want to bring my positivity, personality and after good games and goals with Rangers, I want to play for the national team because at the end of the year we have a big target, the World Cup.
How much can you learn from the manager and coaching team?
It’s a big honour to work with them. When I spoke with Gio, it was an incredible conversation. He wanted to tell me directly how he wants to play and I saw myself fitting in directly. My father used to call me Anton [because Roy Makaay’s second name is Antonious] because he was such a fan of Roy and wanted to see me like him as a No.9. I’m looking forward to working with them and learning day by day.
What can you bring to Rangers?
I’m a No.9, a striker. I want to score as many goals as I can, bring my work ethic, pressing and movements to stretch the [opposing] team. As a person, I want to with my positivity.
