How would you sum up the desire of the players to reach the Champions League group stages?
I think it’s the highest level you can play at. I speak for myself and all the other players. When you start to play football and hear the Champions League anthem, it’s one of the biggest things. I think we’re two games away from that dream and everyone is prepared to give everything.
You’ve scored in the last three games, tell us about your confidence going into this game?
I think my confidence is always high, whether I score or not. I’m happy with this period of scoring. It makes me hungry to score more and I think I can always score to bring me into situations. First of all, the most important thing is the success of the team. After that, I’m always happy if I can add goals or assists to the team.
How confident are you as a group that you can win these two matches?
We’re really confident. We play the first game infront of our fans at Ibrox. It gives us a big confidence and push. We are two games away from the group stages and we’ve come a long way. Everyone must be aware of how close we are. We will be well prepared to get the best out of it.
So many big teams have come to Ibrox and been beaten. Seeing as you’re relatively new to the team, can you sum up coming to Ibrox on these big European nights?
For me, it’s difficult to explain. When you walk out onto the pitch you get goosebumps. It’s a special push and feeling. All the situations on the pitch they’re helping us. It makes us stronger and other teams weaker.
You obviously weren’t part of the run to the Europa League final, did you watch that from afar? And what is the mentality like in the squad?
Yeah, I watched the games. Even though I’ve only arrived here I wanted to see the highlights to see how I can adapt to the team. I tried to focus on that with the analysts. We are a really good group and we’ve started the season good. We have two really big games in front of us. If you don’t have a team spirit then you can’t reach a final like Rangers did. Of course, we have new players in but we have adapted really fast. I think this can be an important thing to be successful. Everyone around us, the staff and the fans, we can make it a successful season.
You spoke about hearing the Champions League music, what would it mean to hear that again after your experience with Malmo last season?
I set my targets really high. I want to play at the highest level that I can play. It was an amazing feeling and I’m lucky I experienced it. I want it again and with Rangers.
Is scoring in the Champions League the dream for a striker?
Of course. You want to score against the best opposition. But for me as a striker it doesn’t matter if it’s St. Johnstone or PSV, I want to always score. I’m hungry and I want to work. This is what I want to do tomorrow, be successful and score goals.
How much is the competition with Alfredo Morelos, who is now fit again, ensuring that you always play to your maximum?
I always go maximum as a player, whether it’s training or in games. To have a player like Morelos, and with the quality players we have, it makes us reach the maximum in training. It means a lot to the team that we can both help the side with our goalscoring. We need players like this in every position to be successful.
Did you pay any attention to the criticism you had at the start?
To be honest no. Away against Union we didn’t play well as a team but me as a person, I’m always looking ahead. I’m a really positive guy and I try to make the best of every day. I try to work hard and improve myself. Not every start is easy but I don’t follow the media, it’s good to watch the goals I score though! I just focus on myself.
Have you set a goals target for this season?
No I have not, this is a question I get everywhere. As I said, I want to reach the maximum and give my best everyday as the coach gives me minutes and repay his trust.
How do you feel you’ve adapted to life at Rangers?
The boys and the group have made it really easy and I felt really welcomed. I have been surprised by the facilities and the atmosphere, it’s amazing. I enjoy every game and every day I come to the training ground I’m happy to be here. For me to play for Rangers means a lot, not everyone has the possibility to do that. I want to give everything for the club.
