RANGERS youngster Leon King spoke to the Rangers Review and other assembled media outlets following the 4-0 win over Ross County at Ibrox.
Here is everything he had to say.
How did you enjoy getting 45 minutes today?
It’s always great, being a young player and getting the nod to go and play in front of the fans at Ibrox. It’s still a surreal moment for me, obviously being a boyhood fan of the club so it’s amazing.
It must be so difficult to break through but getting the chance to play in front of the fans must be so rewarding?
It is. You say difficult but it’s amazing I’ve got all these top-class players to learn off day in, day out. If I get my chance I’m just there to grasp it with both hands.
Who has been the biggest influence on you in terms of your development?
Everybody’s been amazing, especially Connor and Tav, the lads who play alongside me in my position. Just putting their arm around me and taking me under their wing and making sure I’m okay.
Were you ever tempted to move away for first-team football?
No, I was solely focused on this club. I’m delighted to still be here and get the chance that I’m getting now.
Are you hoping you’ll maybe get a full game on Tuesday?
It would be amazing. That’s what I’m looking to do, to get 90 minutes in the tank and play as many full games as I possibly can.
Were you a wee bit annoyed with Scott Arfield for failing to finish that chance off at the end and denying you a beautiful assist?
Scotty’s just Scotty, you can’t really be mad at him. We had a wee laugh about it after the game but it was a great run and I’ve just managed to play the pass at the right time and managed to stay onside but he was just unlucky not to score at the end of it.
How excited are you to get those minutes and target more minutes and performances?
As I said, it’s amazing. Growing up supporting the club and managing to get out here and play in front of the fans twice in a row now so it’s a surreal moment for me and my family. It’s just something that I’m so grateful for the manager giving me that opportunity.
It’s probably the most expressive Rangers performance of the season, has there been an impact from Wednesday night, getting that hurdle cleared and now it’s just free-flowing?
It could be but the team’s been so together since the start of the season when we met back up and flew out to Portugal. Everybody’s been lively and happy with each other. I would say Wednesday’s a boost because we’re back where we should be and we just need to kick on from there.
The centre-backs seem to have a lot of time on the ball and the ability to step in, Connor Goldson almost scored a goal, is that something you worked on in the week?
Not particularly no but being a centre-back at a club like Rangers, you need to be able to play and be able to go in and commit players. That’s something we’ll try and do a lot more often as the season goes on.
Can you give us an insight into what it’s like being about the place since the victory on Wednesday night?
To be honest, I don’t think it’s quite set in yet because it’s such a short turnover in between every single game. If I ever get a minute to actually sit down and take it all in I think I’ll be a bit taken aback because I’m not old enough to remember the last time the club were in the Champions League so it’s amazing to be there and be a part of it.
