RANGERS boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst spoke to Rangers TV following the 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
Here is everything he had to say.
Your thoughts on the game, Gio?
Very, very disappointing in the end to drop three points here. We started excellently in the first 30 minutes. We should have scored the first goal and with the chances we had, we could have already killed the game in the first 30 minutes. We weren't clinical enough to score. We conceded the first goal after an excellent 30 minutes and then you want to start the second half really well. We wanted to score really early, to show the same intentions we had in the first half but instead of making our first goal, we conceded the second. It is unacceptable in the way we conceded the goal. Of course, we scored to make it 2-1 at around 72 minutes, but in the end, the game cost us with not scoring. We tried to create something but at 2-1 St Johnstone defended really deep and well so we found it difficult to create many chances. We had crosses in (to the box) but none to the right places so it made it more difficult for ourselves.
Was it even more disappointing considering the intensity that the team started the game with?
It always is, but the game lasts 90 minutes. If you start really well as we did, you have to make sure you score goals because that is why you have the dominance, creating chances and the only thing lacking was turning those chances into goals and then, of course, conceding two goals in bad moments. The second goal was unacceptable to concede like that but it happened and we tried to push hard, to score more goals but we only got one today.
Looking ahead to Hearts in midweek at Ibrox, how important is it to bounce back with a positive performance?
Yeah, it’s always important but my overall feeling now is disappointment after a defeat like this.
