Rangers’ latest recruit Nicolas Raskin has been unveiled to the assembled press following his deadline day move from Standard Liege.
Here is everything he had to say.
Is this a proud day for you?
It’s a very proud day. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. I heard about Rangers at the beginning of last month but it took time before I came. I’m very proud and very happy to be here now.
What did the manager say to convince you this was the right move?
I love the way that he wants to play football. He wants to pass it, no long balls and wants to create from behind. I love this. Also, I was searching for something close to what I know. In Liege, as I said to the boss Ross [Wilson] it’s very similar but with fewer people. We’ve got huge fans also and I really want to continue like this, to go to a club with a very big fanbase and a big atmosphere. I like pressure because that’s how you grow. It’s a club in European competition which makes a difference also. I want to grow in European competition so that’s why I’m coming here.
How would you describe your game?
I’m okay with my technique but I like to recover balls also and to play forward, one-touch, two-touch, breaking lines, I like to play fast.
Are you comfortable playing anywhere across the midfield?
I can play where the coach wants me to play. If you want me as a 6, I’ll play as a 6. If you want me to play as an 8, I’ll play as an 8. It’s the same for me.
What do you want to achieve at Rangers?
I want to be champion. I want to know what it means to be champion. I want to win trophies because I know we’ve got a few trophies here and I want to do something in Europe. I want to play in the Champions League. I’ve never played in the Champions League, I’ve played Europa League when we played against Rangers but now I want to play Champions League and compete in the Champions League, not just playing in it. I want to make a nice story.
How exciting is the League Cup final coming up?
It’s very exciting because it’s a League Cup final. We have to have it in our minds that we have to win it. In the league, we are nine points behind but we still have two games against them so everything can change fast. You win those two games and you never know. I think the team is confident.

How important was the relationship with the manager?
Very important. This make the discussion with the boss – Ross and the manager was very important for me because, as a football player, you need confidence. You need to feel that the club and the manager wants you and that’s what I felt. I was very happy with the talk.
Are you looking forward to playing under pressure here?
I like pressure. I’m coming from a club with big pressure. I don’t know if you know about my old club but it’s a bit similar. Rangers is like a big brother of my old club so I’m very happy to be here.
Do you feel ready to play games?
Yeah, I feel ready. I got my paperwork today so I feel ready.
Do you expect to be in the squad tomorrow?
Yeah, I’m in the squad so we will see.
How excited are you at potentially making your debut?
I’m very excited. I’m looking forward to playing tomorrow. We’ll see what the coach decides but I’m very excited.
Can you explain why you’ve chosen to wear the number 43 shirt?
I wanted 23 but someone’s got it. 43 is because my friends come from a city with a postcode 4,300 and we just took those two numbers.
Have you had the chance to meet your new teammates?
Yeah, I met them and they’re all nice to me so it’s good.
How do you think Rangers played on Wednesday?
I think the first half was very nice. I think the team should’ve scored more goals. It was a very good night for the team.
Are you looking forward to playing with Glen Kamara and John Lundstram?
Yeah, of course. I think the team is very good. There are a lot of young players that like to play football and I’m waiting to play with them.
