Everything Michael Beale said to Sky Sports after the game.

How would you put today into words?

Obviously, it’s a really frustrating afternoon for us to lose. First half, I thought we played really well and had big chances. The boy makes a fantastic clearance off the line, Fashion goes through on goal and Roos makes a good save, Borna hits the post there’s another one with Nico Raskin where if he squares it Malik Tillman has a simple tap in. So you go in at half time as the away team and you are thinking we just need to be more ruthless in the final third. The first goal was a bit of a freak, the boy has crossed it and it’s gone in. Then you’re up against it in an uphill battle. Aberdeen pressed us really well, they didn’t try to play too much football in the middle of the pitch. I thought they tried to play forward and get after us. They did that well. Even after being 2-0 down we had a big chance with Rabbi Matondo where we should score. The performance was really in our hands today, we were really wasteful in the final third on a day when we come up against a hugely committed home team and a buoyant home crowd. It stings, it’s not a nice feeling at all.

Is there any comfort in the fact you created a lot of chances?

When you have the ascendancy and you're the away team, it's important you take the chances there because something in the game, a moment, a decision or like we saw there, the boys crossed it and it's gone in - it changes the mood of the game. I thought maybe in the build up to the second goal there was a foul on Fashion Sakala and okay, we don't get it. You have to defend the far post much better than we did. If we stayed in the game at one nil then the chances come and as I say, still at 2-0 down we had the chances to recover the game, so we need to look at that. We need to be better in the final third.

Do you have to play to the whistle then?

We were actually we were on a counter attack. The ball's played and it's up to the referee and VAR. I think they might be looking at the wrong thing, but look, I don’t want to take anything away from Aberdeen. They imposed their style on us, certainly after scoring the first goal. They imposed a style on us of direct play and pressure. We tried to play through it and today we couldn't find the answers

Is that a worry, especially with a huge game next?

No, because there'll be a completely different type of game. I think today that was a type of game that's difficult to play in, difficult to referee as well. You know, the way the game was and look, we'll just brush it aside and move forward. You're right. We have a big game next week. It'll be a completely different type of game and a different challenge. We'll certainly learn from this when we come back here for next season.

What do you have to do now?

Listen, we might have one or two back, you know. Today, Nico came to the game with a little bit of a problem with his ankle. So obviously, you see when we're 2-0 down you’re half thinking ‘well, okay, we won't push that any further’. We had nice passage to play today for periods of the game today I thought. We played well. But it's about the penalty boxes and we didn't execute there. Next week we have a completely different challenge against a very, very good team. It's a semi-final, it's a fifty-fifty game. When we go into that, we will push this aside and we go into that with positivity.
