Part two of the manager's press conference following Saturday's friendly in Germany.
What's the latest on Fashion's future?
There’s nothing on Fashion at the moment. There’s a bit of noise around a few of the players and that’s natural because of how many we’ve brought in. As soon as there’s something to say on that we will.
Do you need to trim the squad?
When you bring nine players in and two in January, that’s 11 into the squad. Quite a few have left, around eight to 10. But I need to have time now to bring this team together. Is it going to be perfect straight away? No. You can see there’s going to be teething problems. But you can see we’ve got good players. And as long as they all get in line and in tune quickly, we’ll be OK. Naturally with that process, one or two will be a little bit uneasy. One or two might bite down on the gum shield and fight. The window shuts on September 1 but we’ve got eight or nine games before then. So it will be a long month. I’m sure one or two will leave and maybe one or two more will arrive.
What's the latest on Glen?
There’s no update on Glen. He was obviously given an extended break at the end of the season due to internationals then he’s had a sickness problem which has run on. He’s training in isolation at the moment, not with the group, trying to get himself up to speed. There’s a lot in the background with Glen as well with different enquiries and him talking to different people.

So it’s best that he’s to the side of the group. I’ve got no issues with him on a personal level, it’s a conversation we had a good few months ago.
You have plenty of strikers now?
Players arrive at different times. Sima and Lammers have played a lot of different roles in pre-season. Abdallah played wide in a four on Saturday but it looked a bit like 4-2-4 and gung-ho so we’ll need to adjust that. He’s played up front and on the left already. With the amount of number 9's we’ve got, that will push us to play in a certain way. But I think we need the options because at times last season, we were struggling for options in the final third. Danilo has won the Eredivisie the last two seasons, Dessers was the top scorer in that league and Lammers has been playing in Serie A. So they’ve come in with good pedigree. Good players like playing together but we need a bit of rhythm and that will come with games.
How important is a win vs Kilmarnock?
The league’s not going to be over after game one. We’ll play each game that’s in front of us. This is a new team. It’s what we wanted, it’s what the fans wanted. There’s a lot of excitement. Now we need to support it, fuel it. We need to get it fit and strong and together. The fans need to get behind us. We’ll take a game at a time and see where it takes us. This month we’ll play in three competitions. There’s a group of players here who won a lot of football matches from Christmas onwards when I came in. So I expect them to go and win some more this month.
