Here's every word of Clement's press conference after Rangers' 1-0 win at Tynecastle.
Pleased to win at a difficult venue?
For sure it’s a very important win. You play against a team that was in a good series of wins, with a lot of confidence and who spoke about having the confidence before the game to beat us.So we knew we were coming to a tough place with fanatic supporters. We don’t get too many tickets here either so we had fewer fans than normal, but the ones here made a lot of noise. It’s a really important win. We created a lot of chances but that’s still a working point. We need to be more clinical. We need to kill off the game if we can and get the second goal. It would have been a different end to the game because it allowed Hearts to stay in the game and with every long ball or long throw, they were looking for the chance that drops to someone’s feet. We had five big chances but for me, with our qualities, it should be at least three goals. So more things to work on.
Were you slightly concerned at the end?
It’s not about being concerned. It’s about being focused, living with the team, seeing that everybody is fighting and doing the job. Before I came here I didn’t see too much of a team in the images I saw. Now I see a team, I see a dressing room where everybody wants to fight, where people come in and play not in their best position but do a job for the team, like Dujon Sterling did at the end when he came on at left-back. Those are crucial things. Having that mentality gives you 10 or 15 extra points a season and that’s what we need. We need a team where everybody is available and fighting hard. Otherwise, they will not be in the selection.
Good to see Sima’s goalscoring continue?
Yeah of course but it starts with his run and that’s also satisfying. We have for the moment not much time on the training pitch, one before the game and you almost can’t do anything because it’s still a recovery day but we worked on this because we knew the pressing would be like this. Abdallah made a good run like practised and we made a good run. Those are satisfying things that they remember those things from the training and put it into the game. It makes us also stronger.
Some big saves from Jack Butland?
Yes, but it’s crucial to have a good goalkeeper. I need to say on the other side there was some important saves, even the chances with Abda who was flagged offside but I don’t think it was. From both sides, it was good goalkeeping.
How is Tom Lawrence?
We need to assess that tomorrow to make an assessment, that’s the downside. It’s not good to change players in the first half. We’ve lost Borna before this game. It’s difficult for me in this moment because I have never had it in a team that I worked with, that so many players fall out injured. We also don’t have the time to train them and make them stronger because we have game by game by game. We need a lot of good work until January, until then we need to puzzle every time to find the best 11 for that game and make the right changes.
How long will Borna be out for?
I don’t know, it’s a small muscle problem so I don’t know how long he will be out. Tom is also a muscle problem, we will see tomorrow if it is bad or not.
