Here is every word Rangers manager Philippe Clement had to say to the media after his side's 4-4 draw with Union Berlin.

What did you make of the game?

It was a pity also to get a penalty against when we were dominating the game from the start, it is positive already that everybody has the mentality again to not stay in that moment and disappointment but to react as they did. There were a lot of good offensive actions with those who were here last season and the new guys who are starting to understand the story better and better. Defensively, [there are] things to work on. We [conceded] two similar goals and spoke about that at half-time. That is normal with new players, they need to learn things and it’s by mistakes, that is part of the journey.

Is the defensive record in pre-season a worry?

No, of course I want fewer goals against but for example, against Man United we had three shots on goal and they made two goals. It is not like Jack [Butland] played a bad game. So, you need to look a little through the stats also because against Man United we played a good defensive game and today in a lot of moments we played a good defensive game. But we made a few mistakes that in the future will not happen anymore because we learn out of that. That is the story with new players and a new squad, you need to build out of something so mistakes come along the way and you need to learn and work on it. That is in every team in the world.

How do you assess pre-season?

We are, in a way, where we want to be, but I never have expectations in that way. We go full to win three points against Hearts and need to be on our toes, we know that. We start with that and out of this game we made mistakes, we need to learn from that to make the next game better. Like this in the next couple of months, with the players starting and coming in, making players fitter. In a way, the pre-season continues for some players, not everyone is top yet but that was also impossible after the injuries or because of players coming into the building late. So there is work to do we know, but we are looking forward to that.

Are you confident the team can compete in the title race?

It is simple, I want to win everything and I want that mentality in my squad. I am not looking at it like ‘Is it possible with this or that group’. No, I want this mentality that everybody does his best and goes hard to win everything. That needs to be the mentality. We still have some things to do in the transfer market. We go hard for that but those are the things you can’t control, nor the ability of other teams for example. We need to focus on ourselves, as we did in the first five months we were together, to focus on ourselves and push hard with all the players available. To get the maximum out of every game and three points, that is our focus.

Do you expect to add to the squad before the Hearts game?

That is a good question as a journalist but you know I can't answer that because as long as there is no pen on paper, there is nothing in this world. It can be five minutes, five weeks… I don’t know, but there will be other signings.

What can you tell us about reported interest in Lawrence Shankland?

I don’t go into rumours and I will not speak about players of teams we are going to play against.

Are you starting to settle on a starting 11?

For the Hearts game, yes but it will be another one against Kyiv, that is the only way we can do it. We need to make a rotation in the next couple of weeks because not enough players are ready to have their best performance during 90 minutes. It is game by game taking the maximum and seeing who copes with it, who stays fit, who becomes stronger, who is the most competitive. I have an idea in my head today but it can change during the week based on what I see in training.

Have you had any other talks with players moving on?

No, nobody else came to be [aside from Todd Cantwell] saying they wanted to leave.

Is there a concern about Dujon Sterling’s fitness?

You need to see the reality, we are building things. Clearly, I like the player, you guys have seen that because he has played a lot of games with me, much more than before. He played in different positions, but this pre-season he did three times more than he ever did in a pre-season. Still, it is not enough to do all the pre-season. It is with a lot of things in the club and squad, we need time to build things - you cannot change everything in one month or six weeks with a player and their body composition. He is getting better and better, it was only a small thing and Dujon played a good game against Man United. Step by step he is becoming stronger and that is the journey with a lot of players in the squad.

Can you tell us the latest on James Tavernier?

I don’t see a situation. I told you guys, Todd is the only one who came to my office and said he wanted to leave - that’s it.

Has there been interest in James?

I don’t know, there is maybe interest in a lot of players, I don’t know. He is a player for Rangers and is playing for Rangers. As long as players don’t say they want to leave, [they are] Rangers players.

Will he be a Rangers player next season?

I think for every player who was here or in training, who is not saying they want to leave. So we will see.
