  •  Why he chose Rangers and how the transfer unfolded
  •  How he describes himself as a player

You've left it a little bit later in your career to make the move away from your home country. Did you think that the opportunity and gone?

No, no, I was I tried to do my career step by step. And I think I found the right option to go abroad and I was confident that it's going to happen. I had a few times early in my career that it was possible to do. But it wasn't the right club for me. And now we just came so it was a no-brainer.

What was it about this move then that convinced you this was the time to step out of your comfort zone and go and try a different country differently?

I think 12 years and in Holland, it's a good competition, and I really liked it. But for me to go and look somewhere else in a new stadium, new friends, new country, that was also always a dream of mine for me and my family, we wanted to do that one more time. Once Rangers came in it was a no-brainer for me.

How quickly did the move come about?

A few days, it was really fast. So I had to arrange a lot of things.

A number of Dutch players have played for the Rangers. How aware are you of them and the impact they've made here?

Also a few coaches. And it was nice to see that a few big players play and make history. I talked to some of the players who already were here and played for Ranges.

Who did you speak to him? What did he tell me about the club?

Cyriel Dessers, I played with him at Heracles and sometimes against him, so I directly called him. Sam Lammers I talked to, of course, the coach I talked to a few times. I tried to do most of the research.

Do you feel fit and ready to start?

Yeah, I did all my work at FC Twente to prepare for the season. A few weeks, I think five or six weeks and some friendly matches.

What sort of experience do you expect at Hampden?

The players told me all about the fans. It's a big stadium, it’s not Ibrox I know. But still, it's a big stadium and I can see a lot of fans cheering us on tomorrow.

What’s it been like to watch on the past couple of weeks?

Yeah, of course, it’s nice to see what the difference is in Holland compared to here. I am new so I’m learning what to do to become a player in the first squad.

What are the differences that you've seen so far in the football?

I think it’s a lot quicker, the passes in front and you have to realise it’s not building up very easily. Sometimes in Holland, you have more time. So you have to be ready for that.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

I want to build play, I can pass on the left or right. I am a defender who wants to work hard for the team and I will do anything for the team to help my teammates.

What do you hope to achieve with Rangers this season?

I have to make the best out of it. I know I know the history and how what the club wants. We have to take it step by step. So that means we have to win first our games.

Have you seen a bit of Glasgow yet?

Not yet. It was a quick move over and [we also travelled] to Poland. I have not seen a lot but what I’ve seen is beautiful.

What did Sam Lammers tell you to expect?

The same as every club, what they want and what they want to achieve. But I think he told me how big the stadium is, how loud the fans are and only good things about that.
