Robin Propper is determined to lead from the back in Rangers’ silverware hunt this season as he prepares to make his Hampden bow against Motherwell.

The Dutchman has watched on from the sidelines since making the move from FC Twente as Philippe Clement’s side started their campaign with draws against Hearts and Dynamo Kyiv. Now Propper is poised to feature for the first time as the Steelmen visit the national stadium.

Clement has previously spoken about adding experience and nous to his squad and the acquisition of the former Twente captain ticks an important box for the Belgian during his Ibrox overhaul. Propper will fill the spot vacated by Connor Goldson following his switch to Aris Limassol and the 30-year-old is eager to write his own Light Blues legacy in the seasons to come.

"He did some good things,” Propper said when asked about replacing Goldson’s leadership qualities within the squad. “I'll try to be a leader in the team and to lead the players around me.

“I did that a little bit in Holland. It has to be the normal for me when you are in defence with players around me.

"It's normal in football that the pressure is there. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. I have to concentrate on the things I can do and do my best, and then we see what happens.

"I try to do my best with that. I try to help every player around me. I do my stuff in the gym to show the young guys what you might have to do, to make better steps. I'm more of a role model for the rest of the team. I try to do that in Holland and I'll try to do that here.

"The history is so great here. It's nice to see a club like Rangers has won so many prizes. I want to be part of that, that's why I came here, to try to achieve that.”
