Tom Lawrence has spoken to the media ahead of the visit of FCSB on Thursday. Here is what he had to say.
How important is this game for you?
It's a massive game for us. Any Europa League game, it's always a big game. Especially at Ibrox. We need to put a performance on for the fans, I'm sure we’ll do that.
Is it important that the Steaua captain is not playing?
They have a number of good players, whether the captain plays or not, they still play the same way. So, we need to nullify that and play out game, whoever we face.
Is this a massive game for the manager?
Any game is a massive game for Rangers. Obviously, we're on the back of a difficult result, so we need to put that right. we know what we need to do as a team. We stick together and we look forward to the game tomorrow night.
What are you expecting from Bucharest?
I wish I had the answer to that. How are they going to play? Like I said, they're pretty random in the way they play. We need to adjust and, like I said, simplify our game and take it to them.
How is Ianis Hagi perceived after this situation?
Ianis is a good player. He's proven that on the national team and at Rangers. He had a spell out on loan. But we're glad to have Ianis back in the squad. Hopefully help us out. It's a disappointing he can't play tomorrow but it’s good he's back in the squad. I'm looking forward to getting him back soon.
What is the mood after the weekend?
I'd be lying if I said it was a happy place. Especially after the game. We were all disappointed. We were all frustrated with the way we played. But we've had a few days to work in training now. The main thing is we stick together. Tough times come, But we need to stick together. I'm looking forward to the game. Especially putting on a performance tomorrow.
Can you put your finger on what you think is missing currently?
I don't know. From my point of view, on Sunday we weren't creative enough. We weren't too static. It was unlike us in many ways. We need to adjust to those games. Be more dominant, quicker play. We were very lacklustre, I felt. That can't happen. When you play at Rangers, that can't happen. We need to make sure that doesn't happen again.
Can a big win in Europe galvanise the fans behind you again? And also get the team back on track before returning to the league?
I hope so. We know how special these European nights are, especially at Ibrox. I hope the fans are right behind us. Because they deserve that on Sunday.
You hope it's almost a turning point in the season, a big win tomorrow night?
Yeah, I hope so. I hope we can put on a good performance. Be aggressive in everything we can do. Be creative. Shots, crosses. We want a lot more from the game on Thursday.
What is your perspective on the criticism the manager has received?
It shouldn't just be our manager, it's us as players. We need to step up. We can’t be putting on a performance like we did on Sunday. Like I said, we need to do everything we can on Thursday to put it right.
The fans say that Rangers are too boring and predictable...
I think that's fair for the game on Sunday. I don't think it's fair for the previous games. I think we've created enough chances in previous games on Sunday. I don't know why we performed like that, but we need to make sure we don't perform like that ever again at this club while we're here. Me being a creative player, I have to create chances, score goals. We just need to be a lot quicker. We were too lacklustre on Sunday to employ. And I'm sure we'll do a lot better Thursday night.
Tom, you've been through a few of these moments in your time here...
They're always difficult. They're hard to deal with. It's obviously a new squad here. There's a lot of new faces that won't have experienced anything like this before.
How important is it for the guys that felt the sharp edge of the support to get round the squad and show them the way through?
It's important that you actually feel that as well, because the way you come back from that, you need to earn the right to have the fans backing you even more. And hopefully we do on Thursday, because we’ll them. Like I said in the changing room, you just have to get round the new players. Some of them are young, but you have to learn.
Has Ianis helped with insight on Bucharest?
Yeah, he's given us little bits and bobs. We do all our analysis. We have all the data, so we need to help him with that.
One of the things that has been said is that the players don't care enough...
Yeah, definitely. We care a lot. We were with the fans after the game on Sunday and it hurts a lot because we don't want that. Fans don't want it. No one wants it. Like I said, we need to put on a performance tomorrow night.
You came to this club after a couple of pretty successful years. You came here because you wanted to be part of those kind of scenes. Is that the thing that frustrates you most?
That's the aim every season but You have to earn that. Before a season starts, we want to win every trophy we play in. That's what you've got to do at Rangers. We're going through a difficult period at this moment in time. We have to get through it. As a team, as a club, we need to come out the right way.
Do the fans need to show patience?
We know how football's gone in this day and age. There's not much patience in the game. But like I said, we can't go from the fact that we didn't perform on Sunday. We know we can do better than that. We know we have been doing better than that. So we need to prove that again Thursday night.
Is the win over Betis last season the benchmark?
We showed that in Malmo away. Lyon, they're a very good team. We just fell short, I thought if we put some of our chances away earlier on in the game, it would have been a different game. So we look forward to this game Thursday night.
