Allan McGregor: Didn’t make a save all game and was well-beaten for the opening goal. 6

James Tavernier: Played slightly deeper than we’re usually accustomed to seeing him at Ibrox in the first-half before moving into a right-midfield role when Patterson entered the game. Dealt well with Rodrygo throughout. 6

Filip Helander: Typically composed in possession and well-positioned out of it. The Swede is so dependable and having only just returned from his summer break, looked right up to speed. 7

Connor Goldson: Rodrygo managed to glide by him on a couple of occasions, but that can hardly be used as a stick to beat him with. Composed on the ball and even ventured into midfield with the ball on occasion. Also unfortunate with a header that he saw well saved. 7

Borna Barisic: Typically linked up really nicely with Kent and facilitated his impressive opening 45 minutes. Supporters will be glad to see him back and in the starting 11 ahead of the curtain-raiser on Saturday. 7

John Lundstram: Looked really comfortable on the right of a midfield three and made a few surging runs into the final third. You can see how his physicality and dynamism will benefit Rangers in European matches of this ilk. Also performed a superb ‘chop’ on Marcelo. 7

Steven Davis: Composed, intelligent and always seemed to have time on the ball. Looks set to start the season exactly as he finished the last. 8

Ianis Hagi: Played to the left of a midfield three in the first half. He showed some moments of real intuition, including a back heel flick to find Kent and a drop of the shoulder that committed Martyn Odegaard, but also was wasteful on occasion. Should have done better for the visitor’s opener however when letting the ball past him at the edge of the box. 7

Ryan Kent: Was at his very best in the first half with his myriad attributes displayed. He showed intelligent movement, picking up really good spaces while being inventive with the ball. Real Madrid podcast ‘Managing Madrid’ summated his impact succinctly by commenting: “Let’s sign Ryan Kent instead of Kylian Mbappe.” 9

Scott Wright: He impresses me every time I see him play, and has really staked his claim to start against Livingston. His ability to drive wide from the right or cut inside makes him a difficult opponent to face. 7

Fashion Sakala: Watching Sakala in the flesh, you can understand why he garnered so much interest for his services. He led the line with real intelligence and possesses the ability to link play or dart in behind. The home crowd loved him and he clearly enjoyed his goal. 9

Subs:

Calvin Bassey: Replaced Borna Barisic and performed astutely. Has had a relatively impressive pre-season, but still has some way to go if he hopes to become Rangers’ first-choice left-back. 6

Cedric Itten: Came on as Rangers switched to a 4-1-4-1 and was pretty isolated. His link-up play still seems rusty at times, but when called upon in the box he delivered. An excellent turn and finish to earn his side the win. 8

Jack Simpson: Replaced Fil Helander at half-time. Dallied a little bit on the ball on a few occasions where he could have perhaps been more incisive and on the front foot. 5

Nathan Patterson: The topic of whether he and Tavernier can grace the same pitch has been a hot conversation this pre-season. It was trailed again in a 4-1-4-1 but Rangers fell too deep and quickly reverted to 4-3-3. Patterson made excellent driving runs inside as ever and got the better of Marcelo on more than one occasion. 7

Glen Kamara: Gave Rangers a bit more balance in midfield as Hagi moved forward. Glides in possession, and as is custom, embarrassed at least one opponent by shifting his weight one way and dancing off in the other direction. 7

Jordan Jones: Hasn’t done an awful lot to convince he should be part of the squad next season. Doesn’t look all that comfortable playing narrow and failed to release Itten early when in an advantageous area. 5

Leon Balogun: Little to report from a short cameo in place of Goldson. Didn’t look overly confident bringing the ball out. 5

Stephen Kelly: Lost the ball in a dangerous position at one point but recovered well. He’s performed really well this pre-season but whether it is enough to convince of a first-team spot this season remains to be seen. 5

Scott Arfield: Performed a similar role to Lundstram, covering well for Tavernier while also providing third-man runs at points. Even if he doesn’t start many games this campaign, he is an excellent impact sub in the middle of the pitch. 6

Glenn Middleton: Played in left midfield before Rangers reverted back to a front three. Should have released Bassey down the line but chose to shoot during a counterattack. 5
