FORMER Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes that his old side's 1-0 win over Celtic has shown that any talk of an early-season crisis at Ibrox was premature - adding that if either half of the Old Firm are in trouble at the moment, it's Celtic.
The former Scotland internationalist was part of Sky Sports' coverage for the first Old Firm derby of the campaign and, speaking after the full-time whistle, poured cold water over the notion that Rangers are a club in crisis.
He told Sky Sports: “With everything that has been going on at Rangers and everyone saying Celtic will conquer Ibrox and take over, they have left with nothing.
“Let’s be realistic, we have heard Rangers haven’t started the season well.
“But Celtic are the team who have lost two of their first four league games.
“I’ve said all along, people have been getting carried away because they beat Dundee and St Mirren 6-0.
“They had lost one league game like Rangers before this match - but Rangers were the club in crisis?
“Only in Glasgow would that happen but losing another game, I’d say it’s Celtic who have problems.
“And there is still more to come from Rangers in the final third going forward.”
Boyd added that summer signing Carl Starfelt was too slow to react at the corner kick which led to Filip Helander's goal, with the 38-year-old branding the Hoops' defending as "shocking".
“He [Helander] shows so much aggression and determination to head that ball," Boyd explained.
“Carl Starfelt is caught between two players and Helander is able to attack it.
“But Rangers were back to what they were last season - in their own box.
“Odsonne Edouard has a chance and Kyogo got in a couple of times but Rangers defended the box well.
“Any corners or free-kicks, they defended them properly.
“That’s a crucial part of the game and Rangers have managed to get a set-piece winner.
“You can talk about the negatives of the Celtic defending - and it was shocking.
“But Rangers will take the positives of a really good corner and a brilliant header.”
