Outspoken pundit Michael Steward has claimed Ryan Porteous didn't "deserve" to be sent off against Rangers at Ibrox yesterday.
The Hibs defender was red-carded by referee Nick Walsh on the 30th minute for a wild lunge on Joe Aribo that sent the midfielder sprawling.
The tackle provoked debate on social media but several high-profile pundits, including Neil McCann, Ricky Foster and James McFadden backed the referee's decision.
But Stewart isn't so sure and while he understands why many feel it's a red card, the controversial BBC personality claims the lack of contact in the challenge means Porteous was dealt with harshly.
He said on Twitter: "Ryan Porteous disallowed goal last year at Ibrox and the sending off today have both had a huge impact on the results. Difficult for Hibs to take but a very strong side who are capable of properly challenging.
"Understandably Rangers will say it’s dangerous from Porteous. They may have a point but for me he doesn’t catch Aribo. I don’t think it deserves a red card but totally understand those who argue differently."
But strangely, while Hibs can move to appeal the decision, Stewart reckons they may be wasting their time.
He added: "I doubt very much the challenge would be rescinded by the way."
