MORELOS THE 100 MAN
Alfredo Morelos cemented his name in the Rangers history books as he netted his 100th goal for the Ibrox outfit. The Colombian has struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks being on the cusp of the milestone, but today he finally grabbed the all-important strike. Morelos showed great movement inside the box to divert home a James Tavernier cross. The 25-year-old becomes just the second foreign born striker to net over 100 goals for Rangers, so it just goes to show what a fine achievement it is. Morelos reached his record goalscoring number in just 199 appearances after being brought to Glasgow during the Pedro Caixinha era. Rangers have knocked back numerous bids for the hitman over the years, but now after reaching this landmark, they could face a huge fight to keep their starman.
McGREGOR MISSING
Allan McGregor dropped completely out of the Rangers squad for today’s match against St Mirren. Steven Gerrard confirmed ahead of the clash that the decision to drop the 39-year-old was just down to resting. McGregor kept a clean sheet during the week in the Europa League against Brondby, but it is clear now that the veteran will likely only manage one game per week. The former Scotland international was key for Rangers last term and he will play a key role once again this campaign. Ibrox fans should not sweat about McGregor’s absence though as Jon McLaughlin has stepped in and performed well. Robbie McCrorie is another talented keeper who is lying in wait for his chance.
ROOFE ON PENALTIES
Kemar Roofe grabbed another goal as he notched from the penalty spot in the first half. Skipper James Tavernier had been in charge of the spotkicks, but it seems now that Roofe is the main man. The Jamaican international scored a penalty earlier this season against St Johnstone and on both occasions, he has slotted calmly into the back of the net, despite the pressures of a penalty. It is not just penalties that Roofe is scoring though as he really appears to have found his scoring touch this season. His poachers goal on Thursday night in the Europa League proved that he is hungry to add to his Rangers account.
