STEVEN GERRARD has thanked Walter Smith for all he did to help him as Rangers boss.
The Light Blues gaffer has paid tribute to the club legend who has died aged 73.
The Ibrox club announced the sad news this morning.
Smith led Rangers to 10 top-flight titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups as well as to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
He also managed Everton and Scotland in a trophy-laded career.
And he acted as a mentor to Gerrard over the past three years.
Now, the Liverpool legend has taken to social media to send his condolences to Smith's family.
He wrote on Instagram: "Thank you for all your wisdom, support and friendship. You meant the world to everyone at Rangers. You will be sorely missed.
"Thoughts with Ethel and all of the Smith family at this time. Rest in peace Walter."
