Rangers fans send boardroom safe standing message with Ibrox banner

Supporters hoisted a banner along the Broomloan Road stand giving their backing to calls for a standing zone in the stadium.

The banner read: "'Mixed reactions' in the boardroom clear response in the stands".

It's thought the banner was referencing a recent discussion at the club AGM over a report into the introduction of safe standing at Ibrox.

Quizzed on the feasibility study on safe standing commissioned by the board, managing director Stewart Robertson said: “Covid kicked in and, on the back of that, we never actually completed it.

“That is the short answer. It has never actually been completed. It is not something that is on our immediate radar.

“That is the short answer. I am conscious that there are groups of fans who are keen to have safe standing within the stadium and there are various issues we need to look at in terms of the moves, where do you put it and how you do it.

“That is not something that has been top of our list of priorities over the last couple of years.”

Further probed on what the response has been from fans on the possible introduction of safe standing Robertson added: "There was a bit of pushback but it was probably a mixed reaction to the whole thing.

"It depended where your view was, whether you were one of the guys up there singing getting the atmosphere going or one of the guys who has always sat in his seat for the last 20 years.

"It's a kind of natural split that you're going to get in that kind of study."

Douglas Park then commented that safe standing will be considered but, referencing an earlier query, stated an improvement in seats for disabled supporters is the first priority.

Ibrox chairman Park added: "The biggest priority is to sort the disability thing out.

"That has been top of our list and we are finding it very., very difficult to try and solve the problem. 

"We will look at the safe standing but I think the disability comes first."
