What were your thoughts on today’s match?
I’m very happy with the performance. As I said to the players, in home games we have to be dominant, we have to show the opponent there is nothing to get here and I think we showed that from the first minute. Overall performance, we are creating a lot of chances and I think the 3-0 score is only there because their goalie had an excellent day with some great saves. We didn’t give any chances away. When we were 3-0 up we were pressing really high and not giving them space to play so I’m really happy with the performance and, of course, with the result.
That’s three clean sheets in four, how important is it to keep the zero?
It’s very important. I said to the players, the most important thing for today was the result was how we showed our willingness to win and our character in games. If everything we want is there then we are winning games at home for sure. I think the reaction of the team is good, dominating, creating chances but making sure we are organised when we lose the ball so today was very good. There is still room for improvement so I will push them to get even better and stronger both attacking wise and defensive wise.

Fashion Sakala was impressive, is having two goalscorers what you prefer going forward?
I want more goalscorers in the team. You can see Fashion wants to score, we’re creating enough one v ones on the sides, especially for him on the side with his speed. His finishing was good but the saves from the goalie as well. You can see the threat he has and that’s what we like. Every game needs a different type of player, today especially in the second half with Scott Wright coming in, we stretched their backline and you could see the danger we had in attacks.
The full backs have come a bit deeper, how pleased have you been with how they’ve adapted?
I think everyone has to adapt to make sure we are attacking as a team and you can see where the spaces are. Today the spaces were more on the sides. I give a lot of freedom to my full backs at times when they can go up and join the attack especially today when we were only playing against one striker. Also when one full back is gone the other ones have to make sure we are organised when we lose the ball.
You changed the positions of the forwards in the first half, what was the thinking with this and is it good to have players who are interchangeable up top?
I’m a coach who wants his players to keep their positions but when they change it is also difficult for the opponent but what’s important is the positions are taken in. Today I think we did really well in changing the sides and creating the overloads. For me, it’s most important that we keep the positions on the pitch as a team to be dominating.

How pleased were you with Joe Aribo’s performance and how much do you enjoy working with him?
I enjoy working with Joe and the other players. I can see their energy, I can see their willingness to learn new things.
So far they’re giving me so much energy to work with them, especially Joe, his performances have been excellent in the past games and I’m really pleased for him.
Again today, he was Man of the Match but he’s part of the team and the team, again today, played very well.
Alfredo Morelos has scored three goals in his last four games, you’ll be hoping he can keep that momentum going?
Yes, of course. The squad is almost fully fit, Leon Balogun coming back as well, hopefully, tomorrow he will train so we have almost a full team to head into this busy period so I will use my whole squad. Today, bringing in Sakala and Scott Arfield came in so Steven (Davis) and Ryan (Kent) were out of the squad but others came in and did their job and that’s what you want.
What are the areas you would like to see improvement in?
You can never be fully satisfied with your performance, there’s always improvements. Passing from the back, I think today especially the first half, we had two build ups where we gave the ball away very easy and had to defend a counter attack. I don’t want those moments. Of course it can happen but then you have to react and we reacted really well when we lost the ball but that’s something we should keep improving. In the end, you want to create chances and you also want to score and 1-0 at half time was not reflecting the dominance we had today.
Joe Aribo in the first half looked like he was playing much deeper, how important is it he has that flexibility in his game?
It’s important, especially for a player like Joe who can play in either position, higher up the pitch or a little bit deeper depending how the opponent is playing. I’m really flexible, I like to have a flexible midfield to play with a 6 or play with a 10 so he’s one of the players I can change. For him, it doesn’t matter so I’m very happy because he also gives a lot of stability for the team.
You’ve had the opportunity to leave Steven Davis and Ryan Kent out the squad, in what is a long season, how important is it to be able to do that?
Very important, also the performances of the guys who came in, Scott Arfield has already played some minutes but Sakala started for the first time and I gave Ryan Jack some minutes because I also think he’s a very important player for the team, he’s been out for a while and today I could give him some more minutes. I’m happy also that we’re in a position where we can rotate again against Lyon because we did very well against Sparta to qualify for the next stage so that’s another game I can use to bring in some players and give them minutes.
Heading into Thursday, have you got one eye on next weekend against Hearts?
Of course, we know it’s going to be a hard game next week as well. Normally I’ll work from game to game but we have the luxury of thinking about Sunday because we have to be fresh and strong as well because of the task we will have against Hearts next week. I’m confident that the team who will play on Thursday is one who can also have a good result because the balance in the team and the squad depth is good.
The work rate is really good off the ball, are you aware of that?
I saw some games before I came here but for me, it was always a new starting point as a coach and for the players as well. I’m demanding these performances every game no matter who we play or which cup we play. We have to start over again. The game against Hibs was a very tough game, I’m happy to get a result there but today we started again and we have to show it again week in week out. For me, it’s a good sign that even when we are 3-0 up, we can see a team very focused, very concentrated in keeping the zero and trying to score a fourth goal.
