Alex Lowry was speaking to the press ahead of Rangers’ UEFA Youth League tie against Sevilla.
How has the last month been for you?
It has been crazy, but something I’ve always wanted to do [making my debut] it’s part of the plan from when I first joined the club years ago. It’s obviously brilliant to make my debut and score as well. It has been crazy but very enjoyable as well and I’ve learned a lot.
It has been hectic, different to my normal day with the youth team but it has been very enjoyable and I’ve learned a lot from playing with top-class players.
Are contract talks ongoing?
I’m just focused on football I let my agent and the club deal with that.
What’s it like bouncing between squads?
It has been good. Training with the first team day in and day out for the last couple of weeks has been really good and I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve played with the boys in the B team for quite a few years so it is not as if it’s a massive change coming back into the group. It’s been enjoyable.
How have you tried to stay in the manager’s eyeline?
I’m just doing my best every day in training, performing and doing all the stuff off the pitch as well. Whether that be gym work and everything that comes with that. I’m just trying to get my body prepared to be in that environment all the time.
How have competitive games with the B team helped your development?
It has been very helpful! It’s given me that kind of physical side of the game but more importantly, it has made us want to win. In previous years we’ve had a lot of friendlies and it hasn’t been competitive. Going into a competitive league and playing for three points week in week out has definitely helped me in the step up.
What is the main difference between the Lowland League and UEFA Youth League?
There won’t be too much, they’ll be our age so will want to get through like us. It shouldn’t change too much it will be a physical game and a tactical game so we will just have to prepare for what we’re going to do.
What has it been like learning from the first team?
I’ve learned so much, I’ve learned a lot of players in my position like Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi when he was fit. It has been really good and with Aaron Ramsey coming through the door hopefully, I keep training with him and I can learn a lot from him too.
Have you been given help by these players?
Yeah, they’ve been giving me tips so long may that continue!
You were buzzing after your debut, how have you coped with the aftermath?
I’ve got good people around me that help me out so it has not been too bad but we will see how it goes over the next little while.
Will you play in different positions to stay in the team?
Playing with the B team I’ll play wherever the coaches want me to play and that’s the same with the first team. Wherever the boss wants me to play I’ll do my best.
