Big Filip is back

What a great sight it must’ve been for the Rangers fans to see the big defender back. The Swede has been out with injury since the beginning of September. His experience and perhaps most importantly, pace, has been a great miss for the Ibrox club. Giovanni van Bronckhorst used this game against League Two opposition to ease the centre-half back into competitive action. He scored the opener not long into this one at Galabank. But the most important factor in this was that he gained some valuable minutes after so long on the sidelines. His comeback will add depth to the centre-back area.

Full debuts for two new boys

Aaron Ramsey and Mateusz Zukowski made their full debuts in the romp. While it will have been refreshing for supporters to get a glimpse of both of the players, the main event was certainly getting to watch Ramsey in action from the start. The Welshman had made two sub appearances since his arrival ahead of this cup tie. But van Bronckhorst clearly felt this was the perfect opportunity for the on-loan Juventus midfielder to get some more sustained minutes under his belt, with big games in Europe and the Premiership on the horizon. Both players faired well and will be pleased with their contributions.

On to bigger challenges

Every fan loves to see their team stroke a few goals past any opposition. So let’s get it right, Gers fans will be happy as Larry with that side of things at the very least, on top of their progression to the quarter-finals of another major tournament. But attentions are now firmly turns to Thursday night when Rangers travel to Germany to face Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in a tantalising Europa League tie. Many of the first team names such as Tavernier and Goldson will return for this one, and it's good that players like Ramsey and Helander have more minutes in the legs ahead of what is sure to be one of the club’s hardest European games in recent years.
