James Tavernier spoke to BT Sport after the 4-2 win over Dortmund in Germany.

Here's everything he had to say.

What did you make of that?

We are really happy with the result. We know it’s only halfway there. We can take the positives out of tonight but obviously, we are a little bit disappointed to concede the two goals. We have put ourselves in a really good position and we controlled them as best we could and limited their chances. We were really effective on the break and we got the goals.

What was it like to play in?

I thought all the boys performed really well. The boys that came on. But the starting lads did really well to give us the platform we needed. I didn’t see the penalty handball but that’s the benefit of VAR. There was obviously another set-piece as well, we’ve been working hard on them and it came through today to put us in a good position.

What was going through your mind as you were waiting to take that penalty?

I was waiting for the VAR because when the ref calls it you think something is going to happen. I wasn’t sure if the ref blew the whistle or not when I was standing at the penalty spot but that’s why I practice on the training ground and make sure I just execute and put it in the back of the net.

Did you know where you were putting it?

I always know where I’m going to put it the day before a game. It’s just the way I go about things.
