Ibrox legend Kris Boyd has blasted any attempt to play down Rangers’ 4-2 win over Dortmund in Germany as “utterly unfair”.
The pundit rates the Europa League win as one of the finest in the club’s storied history, ranking it alongside legendary nights against Lyon and Parma.
And while he admits some will look to portray the Bundesliga's second best side as weak, Boyd is having none of it.
He told The Scottish Sun: “Listen, there will be people who want to criticise the Dortmund performance rather than give Rangers full credit.
“But any attempt to play down that victory would be completely and utterly unfair. I really do think that it’s up there with the best European nights Rangers have ever had.
“OK, the Barca Bears achieved something special by lifting the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972.
“Walter Smith had some fabulous nights abroad too and I will always remember the game we won 3-0 in Lyon, who were the champions of France at the time. Some supporters will also point to the Champions League win over Parma when they were a huge side in Italy. Dick Advocaat’s star-studded Rangers squad had some terrific results during that spell.
“Alex McLeish had a great result in Porto too and took Gers into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
“But I just look at Dortmund and see a top-class side.
“They’re second-top of the Bundesliga and were favourites to win the Europa League before Thursday.
“Their main man Erling Haaland was obviously missing from the game but it would be stretching it to say they were struggling for players.
“The result was all down to the way Rangers approached it, no matter how anyone wants to look at it.”
