RANGERS have been handed a boost ahead of the second leg of their Europa League knockout tie with Borussia Dortmund after a key player for the German side picked up an injury.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side hold a 4-2 advantage after a superb display in Germany left the Premiership champions in the driving seat ahead of the return leg in Govan.

Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland missed the first match through injury and could return for the second leg in Glasgow but one player who looks set to miss out is Gio Reyna.

The American midfielder - named after Van Bronckhorst by his father Claudio Reyna, who played alongside the Dutchman at Ibrox - was handed his first start for Dortmund since August in Sunday's league match with Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Marco Reus handed Dortmund the lead on 26 minutes before a tearful Reyna was brought off in the aftermath after sustaining an injury.

The 19-year-old's emotional reaction would suggest that it was no run-of-the-mill niggle and Reyna is now a severe doubt to feature in the second leg against Rangers.
