ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK

Rangers went all-out attack today against Motherwell and they looked a threat every time they ventured forward in the first half. Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Ryan Kent were all bang at it and the pace of the trio caused the visitors a lot of problems. Calvin Bassey and captain James Tavernier also bombed forward at every opportunity and their delivery into the box from the flanks was impressive. If it hadn’t been for an impressive display by Liam Kelly in the Motherwell goal, the Ibrox outfit could have been out of sight in the first period.

SECOND HALF HORROR SHOW

The first half intensity was nowhere to be seen as Rangers remerged for the second 45 minutes. The Ibrox outfit still created chances, with two goals chalked off for offside, but there was a glaring lack of ideas in front of goal. Defensive errors also crept in, which ultimately allowed Motherwell back into the game. In all honesty, Rangers looked out of sight at half-time, so the second-half capitulation will be a real worry for Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Rangers had a huge chance to close the gap on Celtic today and they failed to do that. A big week now lies ahead for the current champions with a trip to St Johnstone on Wednesday followed up by a home tie against Aberdeen on Saturday. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side cannot afford any more slip-ups.

LUNDSTRAM STROLLING IT

Much was made of John Lundstram’s second-half performance against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday, and again today he impressed as he was utilised from centre back for the entire 90 minutes. The former Sheffield United man was strong in the tackle and dominant in the air when called upon. Motherwell didn’t provide much attacking threat in the first half, but Lundstram was quick to sniff out any possible signs of a goal-scoring opportunity for the best part of the game. He really looks like a player full of confidence and his use of the ball is impressive and a big bonus to have at the back.
