Chris Burke insists hanging on to Alfredo Morelos could be key to success for Rangers this season.
The Colombian has been linked with a big-money move to Spanish side Sevilla as he approaches the final year of his current deal at Ibrox.
The Light Blues are said to be in contract talks with the 25-year-old, who scored 18 times in 42 appearances last season before injury curtailed his campaign and ruled him out of the Europa League final.
Burke reckons the prolific marksman would be tough to replace if he does move on.
And the former Rangers winger hopes his old club are not left seeking a new striker and a goalkeeper as question marks remain over Allan McGregor’s future.
He said: “Obviously, every single window there’s speculation on Alfredo Morelos. He’s in the last year of his contract and do they sell him now or do they keep him?
“He scored 18 goals in total last season and he is an important figure for this Rangers side. It’s very difficult to find a striker that always scores goals.
“I think that’s going to be an important factor. If Morelos goes, he’ll be very difficult to replace.
“And, also, you’ve got the likes of Allan McGregor, who has had a terrific second spell. Does he retire or does he move on?
“For me, I would love to see him continue his journey at Rangers.”
Burke added to Sky Sports: “Rangers, if you look at it, could be looking for a new number nine and goalkeeper.”
