KENNY MILLER hopes Connor Goldson's injury isn't too bad for Rangers' sake.

The Englishman came off during the first half of Liverpool's 7-1 thumping of the Ibrox club on Wednesday night.

He told BT Sport: "It’s another heavy defeat at this level against a Liverpool team who were excellent in the second half.

“I still think looking at a lot of the goals that Giovanni won’t be happy with them.

“More importantly moving forward, the injury to Connor Goldson and Ryan Jack will pave costly, especially the Goldson one.

“He is the rock back there. He’s barely missed a minute never mind a game over his time at Rangers.

“He’ll be a big big loss. You’ve just got to keep your fingers crossed that it’s not too long out for Connor as he’s the heartbeat of that Rangers defence.

“He holds things together. He’s such an influential player for the people about him."

Fellow Ibrox hero McCosit praised Jurgen Klopp's side for upping their quality levels after the half-time interval.

He commented: "

“After everybody questioning Liverpool’s start, people were saying it might be a good time to play them.

“For the first 45-minutes it was a game, but Liverpool just took it to a new level. They stepped it up two or three gears. It was a mismatch in the second-half.”

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen, who shared the studio with McCoist, said Liverpool will now be excited for their weekend game with Manchester City.

The latter said: “They’re struggling by their standards as they’ve had an average start to the season. But in the Champions League it’s basically signed and sealed with two games left of the group. That’s a big tick of the box.

“Domestically they’re off the pace at the moment, apart from 9-0 against Bournemouth.

“I still think there’s a few cracks. You look at the goal they conceded and the other one they nearly conceded. They’re not quite the same.

“But all these people who say ‘Oh Liverpool are gone’, it’s rubbish. Don’t forget a couple of seasons ago Liverpool had a really poor year during the Covid season. Look what happened during the next season, they were inches away from being one of the all-time greatest teams.”

The former added: "I don’t think Liverpool are as far away as people are making out. You saw with Mo Salah. He might’ve been a bit off form, but there were individual moments there where people’s confidence could switch.

“He got three, Firmino got two. I’m sure these players will go into this game against Man City bouncing with confidence.

“There may still be fragile minds when things don’t go their way though.”
