ALLY MCCOIST believes Steven Gerrard's Rangers ship has sailed, ruling him out of a potential Ibrox return in the future.
The Liverpool legend was sacked by Aston Villa last week and is now on the hunt for a new managerial position.
With pressure mounting on Giovanni van Bronckhorst some fans and pundits have floated the idea of Gerrard returning to Rangers.
But for club legend McCoist, he feels fans would be fully split if the former boss returned to the club.
Responding to Jamie O'Hara on talkSPORT, he said: "No, I think that ship has sailed as well, Jamie. I think it would be absolutely split with the fans, I really do.
"It would be split, it might surprise some, I think a lot of people would take him back with open arms but I think there is still a bad taste in some of the supporters' mouths with the way it ended.
"I think that ship has sailed but there is no doubt Giovanni is under a bit of pressure."
