Ally McCoist has revealed a touching gift he received from Celtic after his final ever game in professional football.

The Rangers legend had several joyous moments against the Hoops during his time at Ibrox.

However, after nearly 600 appearances for Rangers, the former Scotland international moved to Kilmarnock for the last three-years of his career.

After a mixed spell in Ayrshire, mainly hampered by injury, McCoist decided to retire in 2001 at the end of the season.

On the last day of that campaign, Killie beat Celtic 1-0 at Rugby Park to secure European qualification.

And McCoist he was given a present on that day by the Celtic players following the match.

An unnamed member of Martin O'Neill's squad came into the home dressing room to present Coisty with a signed jersey.

He told talkSPORT: "My final game was for Kilmarnock against Celtic, and the goalscorer was Alan Mahood. We beat Celtic 1-0 to qualify for Europe.

"The final thing was, the ironic thing, Kris Boyd came on for me as a substitute.

"After that game, I'll tell you another thing, the Celtic players must have been gutted about the result although they also qualified for Europe – I can't remember if they won the league that year.

"Anyway, one of the boys came in and presented me with a Celtic jersey that all the players had signed.

"I've still got it, absolutely. What, did you think I gave it to next door?

"It was a very nice touch. I'm completely serious, respect. It was very kind of them to think of that."
