RANGERS have sacked their manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The Dutchman has departed the Ibrox club after just a year in charge following a string of poor results both domestically and in Europe.
We exclusively revealed Van Bronckhorst's sacking this morning and it came as a surprise with a club waiting over a week from their last Premiership match against St Mirren where they drew 1-1 in Paisley.
The Govan outfit have just over three weeks to find a successor for Van Bronckhorst, with their first match after the World Cup break at home to Hibernian on December 15.
Here is how our readers reacted to the news of this morning's sacking...
Corstorphine: "It was on the cards, hard to believe that he took us to pens in the Europa final 6 months ago.
"Gio has paid the price for failures in the SPFL that's the bottom line, but what about Ross Wilson and the so called player transfer model, failed miserably.
"Players not sold when their stock was high, players signed who are not up to standard, players signed that were not fit or were suspect to injuries, players allowed to run contracts down.
"Ross Wilson has to accept his role in the six months collapse with the first team squad management."
James Street: "Always sad to see a manager lose his job, particularly in this case, as Gio gave the Rangers great service as a player and some wonderful nights in Europe as a manager. But the Rangers move on. To greater glory ahead."
Robert Aitken: "I thought he was safe given how long after the break he has remained manager.
"Given the number of injuries, I believe this is another mistake by the board. The league is lost but they are pandering to the noisy support who think a new manager and a few January signing can change the outcome.
"Ross Wilson would have been involveed in this so I don't have any faith there would be a benefit given what he was done buisness wise recently.
"Thanks Gio for all the great European nights we have had and good luck in the future."
Donald Fraser: "Why was Gerard not sacked after 12 months? Has he been dismissed because other supposedly better managers maybe available? He should have been given time."
John Donaldson: "It's sad that Gio has lost his job though not a huge surprise. All the best to him for the future."
Steve Murphy: "Can't say I am shocked. The club got rid of 2 CB's and have got crocks in place, could go on. But thanks for the euro run Gio all the best in the future."
J Fritz: "The fall guy for that hopeless board of incompetents. Ross Wilson stays and that says a lot for the club.
"It`s already Goodnight Vienna anyway against a Celtic team that cannot get a win outside the football graveyard."
Hugh Gordon: "Big, big mistake by Rangers board. UEFA final, Scottish Cup, qualification for the Champions League group stages, struggling on with a team depleted by injuries and want away mentality amongst many.
"For goodness sake what comes next? Most likely a placebo for the masses."
Matt Lynch: "Wrong decision, it's the fault of the board, I think Rangers fans expected to see a load of Dutch players coming in, instead they got him a load of not-so-good players, I doubt Gio asked for any of them."
