Ally McCoist has revealed a hilarious encounter with Roy Keane on a day off during the World Cup in Qatar.

The Rangers hero and Manchester United legend were both part of ITV's coverage for the tournament, that Lionel Messi's Argentina ultimately won.

On a down day, the pair met on a beach by their hotel and McCoist has revealed that Keane had him in stitches without even uttering a word.

He said on talkSPORT: "I had a belter when we were at the World Cup right.

"We had the afternoon off and I thought I am going to nip down the beach for an hour because I like a swim and I love the beach.

"So I walk down to the beach which is right next to the hotel. I'm telling you, there was nobody on the beach, nobody. It wasn't a massive beach but there was nobody there.

"There was 80 sunbeds or so. But there was one sunbed way up on the left-hand-side and Roy was sitting on it. He had his headphones on. He was the only person on the beach.

"I'm thinking to myself, there is no danger that he wants to see me. Initially I thought, I'll pull up my sunbed right next to him, tell him I'm staying and see where it takes us.

"But, then I thought he'd have killed me. I walked all the way along the beach to see him. He's got his headphones on and he opens one eye. He looks at me and removes the left ear of his headphones.

"I said you'll be delighted to hear I'm not going to sit next to you and I am going to leave you alone, I just wanted to say hello. He looked at me, closed his left eye and put his left headphone back in and stuck a thumb up."

Meanwhile, Ryan Jack insists Rangers are determined to land a cup double this term.

Michael Beale’s side, who trail city rivals Celtic by nine points in the cinch Premiership, have a Viaplay Cup semi-final against Aberdeen to look forward to on Sunday before kicking off their Scottish Cup campaign away to St Johnstone the following weekend.

Jack, who scored in last season’s Scottish Cup final triumph over Hearts, knows the importance of trying to put silverware in the trophy cabinet in the second half of what has been a challenging campaign.

“That’s the aim for me and the team and the staff,” said the midfielder. “Since the manager has come in, he’s said we want to go win both cups.

“Obviously with me being here for a number of years, I know the demands the fans put on us to go and win every trophy.

“The boys will be ready for next week and it’s a chance for us to get back to Hampden and another cup final.

“We’re expected to go and try to win every competition we’re in. The supporters demand it, the manager and the staff demand that from us.

“But for us as players, we want to go win as many trophies as we can. It is something to look back on at the end of your career.

“Obviously last year we won the Scottish Cup and we want to win both cups again this year too.

“We’ll work as hard as we can this week and we look forward to the game.”
