Todd Cantwell has been backed to be a success in blue if he signs for Rangers this transfer window.

The Norwich midfielder has been increasingly linked with a move to Ibrox this month as Michael Beale looks to strengthen his options ahead of a big second half of the season.

The 24-year-old, who is out of contract in East Anglia this summer, is being tipped to handle the pressure of signing for a club like Rangers if he makes a move north of the border.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, ex-Celtic player Si Ferry says the Englishman has what it takes to be a success in Scottish football, unlike recent big-name imports from down south.

Ferry said: “I really like Todd Cantwell. Norwich are a big club. I've played at Carrow Road and the fans are very demanding so he'll be used to the pressure of playing with a big club.

“When you move to the SPFL, you need to be able to run. Players from England have struggled with the intensity because it's like a game of basketball - it never stops.

“That's why guys like Joey Barton and Shane Duffy struggled when they came to Scotland - because of the intensity.

“Having seen Cantwell, he can run and he's at a good age where he's still young and he's got that confidence to try things with the ball. Rangers and Celtic love those types of players.

“I can see Todd doing really well at Rangers.”

Trailing title rivals Celtic by nine points in the Premiership, the Gers take on Aberdeen in the semi-final of the League Cup this Sunday and will look to retain the Scottish Cup, kicking-off their campaign away to St Johnstone next weekend.

Light Blues gaffer Beale has been tipped to snap up Cantwell to increase his chances of winning his first piece of silverware since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in December 2022.

When asked about the links with the Norwich man, as well as Everton’s Tom Davies, the former Queen’s Park Rangers boss wasn’t giving too much away.

“No names, but I think they are both good players to be fair,” Beale said.  

“Todd was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under 23s. I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to reignite it but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.”
